Coumarin and its derivatives represent one of the most active curriculums of compound possessing a broad spectrum of biological activity along with other applications such as insecticide and fragrance. There are various methodologies developed for the synthesis of coumarins. Classical routes to coumarins include Pechmann condensation, Knoevenagel condensation, Perkin reaction, and Wittig condensation reactions. Researchers have carried out adjustments and improvements to increase the efficacy and overcome the limitations from the classical route. In this review outline, coumarin derivatives were characterized by using FTIR and Hydrogen NMR spectroscopy. This review paper focuses on various synthesis and characterization techniques to analyze coumarin derivatives and their potential application in various fields.

A Pd(II) complex with methyl 2-((1-(2,4-dioxochroman-3-ylidene)ethyl)amino)acetate was synthesized. The structures of both the ligand and Pd(II) complex were determined by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy. Recrystallization of Pd(II) complex from DMF/water solution resulted in its hydrolysis and formation of dimethylamine-(2-((1-(2,4-dioxochroman-3-ylidene)ethyl)amino)acetato)palladium(II) complex, the structure of which was determined by elemental analysis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, as well as X-ray analysis.

A series of new compounds including p-bromo methyl pheno acetate [2]. N-( aminocarbonyl)–p-bromo pheno acetamide [3] , N-( aminothioyl) -p-bromo phenoacetyl amide [4], N-[4-(p-di phenyl)-1,3-oxazol-2-yl]-p-bromopheno acetamide [5],N-[4-p-di phenyl]-1,3-thiazol-2-yl-p-bromo phenoacet amide [6], p-bromopheno acetic acid hydrazide [7] , 1-N-(p-bromo pheno acetyl)-1,2-dihydro-pyridazin-3,6- dione [8], 1-N-(p-bromo pheno acetyl)-1,2-dihydro-phthalazin-3,8- dione[ 9], 1-(p-bromo pheno acetyl)-3-methylpyrazol-5-one [10] and 1-(p-bromo phenol acetyl)- 3,5-dimethyl pyrazole [11] have been synthesized. The prepared compounds were characterized by m.p.,FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Also ,the biological activity was evaluated .

A nitro coumarin derivatives has been synthesized via nitration of 7-hydroxy-4-methyl coumarin wich was synthesized via Pechmann condensation resorcinol with a β-ketoester using Amberlyst-15 as a green and efficient catalyst and by caring out the reaction of resorcinol and ethyl acetoacetate (with 1: 1 mol ratio) in the presence of 0.2 g of Amberlyst-15 at 110°C under solvent-free conditions. These nitro coumarin derivatives have biological activity and momentousness in the industrial fields. The purified products were measured the melting points and characterized by spectral methods: FT-IR,1H-NMR ,13C-NMR.
