The thermal treatment of [Ru2(CO)6(μ-η1,η2-C4H3O){μ-P(C4H3O)2}] 1 with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) at 110 °C leads to cyclotrimerization of DMAD. The cyclotrimerization product hexamethyl benzenehexacarboxylate, [C6(COOCH3)6] 2, was obtained in 37% yield and characterized by a combination of spectroscopic data and single crystal X-ray diffraction study. Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P1bar with a = 10.3002(12), b = 11.0371(13), c = 18.781(2) Å, α = 76.148(2), β = 87.390(2), γ = 74.001(2)°, Z = 4 and V = 1992.2(4) Å3. The reaction between Co2(CO)8 and Fe(C2Ph)(CO)2(η-C5H5) gave the title complex in 44% yield. The molecular structure was determined from a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study, and consists of the transition metal acetylide acting as a conventional μ- alkyne ligand to a Co2(CO)6 unit. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a 11.610(8), b 14.657(4), c 12.526(6)Ǻ, β 90.30(5)°, and Z 4; 1683 independent data were refined to R 0.080, Rw 0.087.

A compound that reproduces the acute renal proximal tubular necrosis associated with ingestion of Isotropis forrestii, by animals, has been isolated from the plant. The novel heterocyclic structure was determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The spectroscopic data are presented and rationalized with respect to the assigned structure.

AbstractHydrothermal synthesis produced the new compound SrCo2(AsO4)(AsO3OH)(OH)(H2O). The compound belongs to the tsumcorite group (natural and synthetic compounds with the general formula M(1)M(2)2(XO4)2(H2O,OH)2; M(1)1+,2+,3+ = Na, K, Rb, Ag, NH4, Ca, Pb, Bi, Tl; M(2)2+,3+ = Al, Mn3+, Fe3+, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn; and X5+,6+ = P, As, V, S, Se, Mo). It represents (1) the first Sr member, (2) the until now unknown [7]-coordination for the M(1) position, (3) the first proof of (partially) protonated arsenate groups in this group of compounds, and (4) a new structure variant. The crystal structure of the title compound was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The compound is monoclinic, space group P21/a, with a = 9.139(2), b = 12.829(3), c = 7.522(2) Å, β = 114.33(3)°, V = 803.6(3) Å3, Z = 4 [wR2 = 0.065 for 3530 unique reflections]. The hydrogen atoms were located experimentally.

The structure of the compound obtained on heating the naturally occurring clerodane furanoditerpene (1) had been formulated as (2) on the basis of spectroscopic studies. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study on the dihydro derivative of (2) has confirmed this and provides support for the stereochemistry previously assigned to (1) on the basis of chemical evidence.
