AbstractThis paper systematically studied the current-voltage characteristics and the spectrum characteristics of bipolar corona discharge in multi-needle electrode configuration, and determined the optimized space between electrodes. The experimental results show that the discharge current I decreases with an increase in the needle radius a or the space between electrodes d, and increases with an increase in the space between needles s. Due to the symmetry of the discharge electrode configuration, the polarity of the HV electrode has no obvious influence on the discharge. Using the method of OES for measuring N

Experimental study of emission spectra and current characteristics of negative corona discharge over the surface of aqueous salt solutions have been carried out. The radiation spectra from the active zone of the discharge in the wavelength range 200…600 nm were obtained and identified. It was found that most of the spectral lines correspond to the lines of second positive system of molecular nitrogen. The spectral lines of the nitrogen ion N2+ and the lines corresponding to the emission of the OH radical in the UV spectral region are also observed. Current-voltage characteristics of the discharge were obtained at the non-stationary and diffuse stages of the discharge. It was shown that obtained current-voltage characteristics are in good agreement with the results of theoretical calculations using the Townsend expression.

This work investigates the influence of corona discharge working in different treatment modes on the Serratia marcescens and Pseudomonas syringae bacteria cultures. The current-voltage characteristics of the discharge were measured in the 4…50 μA current range. The typical current and voltage oscillograms of corona discharge were measured when the pin’s point was near the water surface. Several treatment modes were discovered, which allowed to destroy or decrease the quantity of Serratia marcescens and Pseudomonas syringae bacteria by several orders of magnitude using 0.3 W corona discharge. The absorption spectra of the distilled water treated by the corona discharge were measured.
