The river's ability in flowing water has been there naturally. The benchmarks of river ability in carrying out the function are mentioned as the river performance; however, the benchmarks of river infrastructure ability in carrying out the function are mentioned as the river infrastructure performance. This study intends to review some aspects of the previous research related to river performance and infrastructure. The methodology consists of reviewing several acts and relevant previous research that some aspects have been proved to influence the river performance and infrastructure. The aspects are classified into two categories: 1) technical aspect that is directly affecting the river performance (come from the nature condition); and 2) non-technical aspect that is indirectly affecting the river performance (come from human intervention). The result shows that: 1) The technical aspects affecting the river performance and infrastructure are erosion, sedimentation, slope, infiltration, morphology, and vegetation surrounding the river; 2) The non-technical aspects that are affecting the river performance and infrastructure consists of land use, residential density, trash, operation and maintenance of river, human activity, and government policy.

O Brasil é um país com uma extensa linha de costa, são cerca de 7.367 km de extensão do seu litoral, com um potencial natural para a geração de energia eólica. O estado do Ceará é um dos maiores produtores de energia eólica para o país, obtendo notoriedade e a necessidade de manutenção dos seus parques eólicos, especialmente se instalados em zonas de costa, onde há uma grande dinâmica natural. O presente trabalho, busca o acompanhamento das dinâmicas morfológicas na praia de Volta do Rio, localizada em Acaraú/CE, que fica a cerca de 238 km de Fortaleza/CE. Os dados coletados em idas à campo, constataram que há um forte processo erosivo atuante na praia de Volta do Rio, o que alerta para a contenção do avanço marinho sob o parque eólico presente no local. A erosão é um fenômeno natural que trabalha na modelação de demasiadas formas terrestres. No litoral, isso não é diferente, por ser um ambiente altamente dinâmico onde há a interação entre continente, atmosfera e oceano, sendo possível encontrar diversos atuantes que podem intensificar os processos erosivos, sejam eles o vento, maré, ou por intervenções humanas, como construções e ocupações indevidas ao longo da linha de costa.Palavras Chave: Volta do Rio; Energia Eólica; Erosão. ABSTRACTBrazil is a country with an extensive coastline, about 7,367 km of coastline, with a natural potential for wind power generation. The state of Ceará is one of the largest producers of wind energy for the country, obtaining notoriety and required maintenance of its wind farms, especially if located in coastal areas, where there is a great natural dynamic. The present work seeks the movement of morphological dynamics in the beach of Volta do Rio, located in Acaraú/CE, which is about 238 km from Fortaleza/CE. The data collected in the field found that there is a strong erosive process on the Beach of Volta do Rio, which warns about the expansion of advanced marine on the wind farm present on site. Erosion is a natural phenomenon that works in the modeling of many hearth forms. On the coast, this is not different, considering a highly dynamic environment in which there is an interaction between continent, atmosphere and ocean, being possible to find many factors that can intensify the erosive processes, such as wind, tide, or human intervention, as constructions and improper occupations along the coast line.Key words: Volta do Rio; Wind Energy; Erosion. RESUMENBrasil es un país con una extensa costa, cerca de 7.367 km de costa, con un potencial natural para la generación de energía eólica. El estado del Ceará es uno de los mayores productores de energía eólica del país, ganando notoriedad y la necesidad de mantener sus parques eólicos, especialmente si está instalado en zonas costeras, donde existe una gran dinámica natural. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo monitorear la dinámica morfológica en la playa de Vuelta del Rio, ubicada en Acaraú / CE, que está a unos 238 km de Fortaleza / CE. Los datos recopilados en los viajes de campo, encontraron que hay un fuerte proceso erosivo en la playa de Vuelta del Rio, que advierte sobre la contención del avance marino bajo el parque eólico presente en el sitio. La erosión es un fenómeno natural que funciona en el modelado de muchas formas terrestres. En la costa, esto no es diferente, ya que es un entorno altamente dinámico donde existe la interacción entre el continente, la atmósfera y el océano, permitiendo encontrar varios actores que pueden intensificar los procesos erosivos, ya sea viento, marea o intervenciones humanas, como edificios y ocupaciones inadecuadas a lo largo de la costa.Palabras clave: Vuelta del Río; Energía Eólica; Erosión.

Achieving optimal use of wildlife resources is a classic problem in natural resource economics. Ciriacy-Wantrup argued that wildlife resources are a case of a fugitive resource for which private property rights cannot easily be defined and therefore government policy may be necessary to obtain optimal use [5, pp. 141–145]. Land use planning is one area of government policy in which limited attention has been given to management of wildlife resources. One reason for the neglect may be the lack of emphasis on estimating the value of wildlife recreation experiences associated with particular land uses. An exception is the work of Martin, Tinney, and Gum [16] who did not look at marginal land use changes but did consider the termination of all cattle ranching in Arizona and its effect on recreational and agricultural economic surpluses.

The watershed Ouergha River located in the north of Morocco suffer from vegetation cover degradation, this geographic entity is experiencing intense water erosion linked to the combination of several natural factors, such as the roughness and abundance of rainfall and the predominance of soft geological formations. Human intervention in this vulnerable environment accentuates its fragility by the clearing and degradation of the vegetation cover and the cultivation of land with a steep slope. This work aims to map the spatiotemporal evolution of this degradation by using the spot and Landsat images and the Radar image over a period from 1990 to 2014 data and aims to model its processes of erosion. In fact, the analysis of satellite data identified six main types of land use (eau, foret, reboisement…). It has also shown that the most degraded soils aren’t necessarily those with the greatest erosion rates over the past 15 years and that some soils that have developed well over time have become major exporters of sediments after clearing and cultivation. The comparison of the results of land use has highlighted the harmful impact of human practices on the acceleration of soil degradation. Human intervention, coupled to frequent and severe drought periods, remain the most important factors in the weakening and increasing vulnerability of soils to degradation. The results obtained by this approach made it possible to identify and monitor vulnerable areas at Ouergha watershed where interventions are needed to limit the processes of degradation of the soil and the natural environment.

According to André Rouillé (2005) the search for photography's ontology is both fruitless and pointless. Six decades after André Bazin's seminal essay, ‘The Ontology of the Photographic Image’ (1945), there is a concerted attempt to remove photography from the ‘reliquary’ of death in which Bazin had (seemingly) locked it. Preferring ‘genesis’ to ‘result’, Bazin had suggested that photography benefited from an ‘essential objectivity’ and that it was close to being a ‘natural phenomenon’: for the first time in history, representation of the external world emerges, mechanically, without human intervention. For Rouillé however, this is a ‘poverty of ontology’, a theory of the ‘index’ based on Peirce erroneously attached to a semiotics of the photographic image. So what happens to the photograph's temporal dimension, crucial to Bazin's definition, if we reject the image as record of the ‘that-has-been’ (Barthes)? Can we still use Bazin's ontology in the twenty-first century?

Scour is a natural phenomenon in rivers caused by the erosive action of the flowing water on the bed and banks. Spur dikes are constructed across the flow to protect the bank from erosion by shifting of the river away from the bank. The spur dike undermines due to river-bed erosion and scouring, which is generally recognized as the main cause of spur dike failure. In this study, accuracy of existing equations for the computation of maximum scour depth has been checked with available data in the literature and data collected in the present study using graphical and statistical performance indices. Three new relationships are also proposed to estimate the maximum scour depth and maximum scour length upstream and downstream of spur dike. This new relationship for maximum scour depth is shown to perform better than other existing equations.
