The output energy of a Nd:YAG laser with an intracavity SBS mirror as a function of the resonator length is studied experimentally and theoretically using a gaseous SBS medium. Efficient and stable operation of the laser requires matching of the longitudinal mode beat frequency and the Brillouin shift and, therefore, a timing of the start resonator length.
