A Multi-Agent Knowledge Management System for Reactive and Proactive Knowledge Supply

This chapter presents an agent-based architecture for integrating organizational knowledge repositories and business processes orchestrated by a workflow management system. This architecture proactively provides relevant knowledge to workflow tasks considering their context, and stores the information generated by its execution for future requirements. It describes components of the architecture, models a multi-agent system that enables the integration, presents a strategy to annotate and retrieval knowledge of non-structured information sources, and defines a new workflow pattern to be used in knowledge intensive tasks in order to make possible the knowledge provision. This architecture allows workers to count, in a proactive way, with all necessary information for the task executions without suspending their activities to retrieve information scattered in the organization. It reduces the wasted time in manual knowledge searches included in mostly knowledge management approaches.

The paper addresses specification and development of large and complex management systems for business process based on a multi agent systems approach. A methodology for obtaining workflow specifications is presented; it is based on conceiving the management system as a mobile agent system in which mobile agents guide the workflow processes within the organization. The specification includes the work environment, the agent behavior, the process plans, the tasks, the resources, and the interaction protocols. The obtained descriptions are modular and hierarchal leading to clear and compact structuring of the distributed software. The design methodology includes a guideline for Java based coding. Finally, key issues for extending the agent based method to address inter-organizational workflow management are overviewed.

Mobile agents are a very novice field with wider scope of research in the stream of a integrated coherent networks, parallel programming, automated learning, remote execution and artificial intelligence. A mobile agent is a representative that is often treated as moving object developed using any object oriented programming language. Using a WFMS is an emerging current trend in modeling, research methodologies and implementing the information/data flow and various related business processes within an organization. Work is often credited as a task, information, a document, data, announcements or a job that passes through different nodes within an organization. The integration of WFMS involves the automation of various processes such as tasks, documents, processed data, and information or rules to accomplish a task. This automation within the technology can be achieved by integration of agent based technology that makes use of Mobile Agent Paradigm. This paper briefs about various features, benefits and role mobile agents in Workflow management system. This also highlights how the implementation of MAWFMS can smoothen and simplifies the workflow managements in multifarious event based environments.

At present, the enterprise has many business processes. It need transfer many forms involving personnel, procurement and other aspects. The workflow management system uses computer network to realize the automation of the business process. This paper analyses the workflow management system, describes the operational principle of the workflow engine and presents a cooperative platform design based on workflow. It can effectively track the whole process and realize standardized management. Otherwise, it can enhance the enterprise business operation efficiency.

<p align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><em>This study discusses the Implementation of Knowledge Management System (KMS) at the National Savings Bank (BTN) in South Sumatra, as a government bank. Given the role of banks in the economy and the extraordinary level of competition. This research is expected to be a reference in implementing KMS in banking.</em><em> </em><em>Banks need KMS to run business processes in the application of expertise in organizations, because KMS is able to improve the bank's core competencies. KMS acts as a liaison in the knowledge provider to broaden and deepen knowledge, contribute to overcoming competition between banks in raising funds to create forms of innovative product services provided to the public.</em><em> </em><em>This research is to identify the implementation of KMS in the organization, so it can be seen the success factors of KMS in banking institutions. Data collected by questionnaire, then made a research model.
