Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization Towards the Solution of Economic Load Dispatch Problem

This paper proposes application of enhanced colliding bodies optimization algorithm (ECBO) for solving the economic load dispatch problem, which aims to get minimum generation cost through economic scheduling of generating unit. The algorithm is a novel efficient optimization algorithm, and its idea is attained from collisions, which are one-dimensional between two or more bodies. Each agent involved in this collision is shaped as a body having defined mass and defined velocity. To analyze the performance of the proposed method, it is tested on four different test systems consisting of 3, 5, 13, and 18 generating units. Both convex and non-convex fuel cost function have been considered. Numerical results have been compared with various well-known algorithms. A significant improvement in the results has been observed. It has been farther noted that an average 5.1% better results were provided by ECBO in terms of generation cost compared to other algorithms. Moreover, the simulation time is also improved. Besides this, Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test has been performed.

This manuscript explores the novel Modified Ant Lion (MALO) Optimization to resolve the load dispatch problem optimally. The primary role of Optimal Economic Load Dispatch (OELD) is to obtain an efficient and economical operation of a power system network. The main aim of performing the OELD is for minimizing the fuel cost of the real power generation when the losses are neglected. An Modified Ant Lion (MALO) Optimization is a narrative nature-inspired algorithm and apes the tracking mechanism of ant lions in life. The random walk of ants, building traps, entrapment of ants in traps, catching preys, and re-building traps are the five main steps involved in the hunting process. The principal objective of OELD is to curtail the total generation cost while honoring effective constraints of accessible generating resources. The anticipated Modified ALO technique is utilized on three and six unit test system to various load demands for solving the load dispatch problem economically. A statistical result clarifies that the anticipated MALO method has lowest fuel cost and superior in quality of solution than other optimization techniques accounted in most latest literature.

Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is an important topic in the operation of power plants which can help to build up effecting generating management plans. The ELD problem has no smooth cost function with equality and inequality constraints which make it difficult to be effectively solved. The paper presents an application of Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) to solve Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problems with smooth and non-smooth fuel cost objective functions. Main objective of ELD is to determine the most economic generating dispatch required to satisfy the predicted load demands including line losses over a certain period of time while relaxing various equality and inequality constraints. The unit Min/Max operational constraints, effects of valve-point loading ripples and line losses are considered for the practical applications. This paper describes the implementation of smooth and non smooth fuel cost function by CSA Method and its comparison with BAT method. We have used 6 and 12 bus system for calculating their total fuel cost.
