The formability of the magnesium alloy sheets is poor at room temperature even though the magnesium alloy sheets are attractive because of their excellent characteristics. Hydro-forming technology, especially the pulsating hydro-forming, may be a way to improve the formability. Finite element simulations have been conducted to investigate the formability of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet in hydro-bugling by pulsating hydraulic pressure. The influence of linear pressure, pulsating pressure and pulsating frequency on the maximum bulging height and minimum wall thickness of the formed parts have been analyzed. The research results show that the formability of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet can be improved dramatically by pulsating hydro-forming. And enough bugling height can be obtained by lesser forming hydraulic pressure. The AZ31B sheet has an excellent performance in formability when the pulsating frequency is properly selected.

The formability of the magnesium alloy sheets is poor at room temperature even though the magnesium alloy sheets are attractive because of their excellent characteristics. Application of pulsating hydroforming is a new and effective method to improve the formability. The effects of the pressure amplitude on the maximum bulging height and minimum wall thickness of the formed parts of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheets are examined using finite element simulations. It is shown that the distribution of maximum bugling height and minimum wall thickness is similar for different pressure amplitude A, and a uniform expansion in bulging region is obtained, the cause of the uniform expansion obtained may be caused by the variation of stress components. The AZ31B sheet has an excellent performance in formability when the pressure amplitude and pulsating frequency are properly selected.

Tensile tests and a cold deep drawing process were developed at room temperature to estimate the stamping formability of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet. The results show that AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet has poor formability at room temperature with the total elongation of ~ 20%, the yield ratio is about 0.6 and the strain-hardening exponent is 0.18, while the plastic strain ratio is 1.58, and the earing ratio is-0.55.Thus, AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet can not suffer server plastic deformation. It was found that comparatively shallow magnesium alloy cups were satisfactorily formed at room temperature without heating when the punch fillet radius 6mm and the die fillet radius10mm with a 1mm thickness sheet with limit drawing ratio of 1.25.

Through a large number of technology experiments, finding out the matching parameters of the DE-GMAW welding of the AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet based on the DSC. This paper simply controls the motor based on the DSC to control the welding torches moving comfortably to make the welding process stable to obtain the good weld.
