Time Synchronization is a key technique which synchronizes the LPs (Logic processes) of PDES (Parallel and Discrete Event Simulation). After having described shortcomings of the existing algorithms for Time Synchronization, this thesis mainly proposes a new approach based on time dams. It introduces the concept of Time Dams Algorithm and presents its realization. Moreover, the performance of TD (Time Dams) Algorithm is compared with the one of TW (Time Warp) Algorithm through the use of PHOLD model in experiments. Finally, the experiment results state that TD performs better than TW under most conditions.

This paper presents a new approach to create 3D visualization from discrete simulation results. This approach connects discrete event simulation directly to 3D animation with its novel methods of analyzing and converting discrete simulation results into animation events to trigger 3D animation. In addition, it constructs a 3D animation framework for the visualization of discrete simulation results. This framework supports the reuse of both the existing 3D animation objects and behavior components, and allows the rapid development of new 3D animation objects by users with no special knowledge in computer graphics but average computer skills. This approach has been implemented with the software component technology, and successfully applied in industry. Results from its practice in an electronics assembly factory are also provided in the paper to demonstrate the performance of this new approach.

Queuing problems present a gap in the availability of knowledge at port container terminals. This study is focused on various types of services for port container terminal queuing system. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a methodology to decrease waiting time without any reduction in productivity. A new approach for servicing at the queue is proposed, and with this idea waiting time will be reduced without any change in productivity or additional cost. To execute this approach in a port container terminal, berthing areas of the port are simulated with ARENA 13.5, and this new approach is implemented in the model. The result of this change are compared with results of a port container terminal as case study. With implementing this method the waiting time is reduced dramatically and productivity increased slowly.
