Abstract In this paper, we present the results of a 6-year experiment in space that studied the effects of radiation in GaN electronics in geostationary orbit. Four GaN transistors in a Colpitts oscillator configuration were flown in the Component Technology Test-Bed aboard the Alphasat telecommunication satellite. A heuristic analysis was performed by observing the variation in the power output of the oscillators with the total ionizing dose gathered during the mission. The total ionizing dose was measured with a RADFET placed close to the GaN devices. The experiment showed that GaN is a robust technology that can be used in the space radiation environment of a geostationary orbit. The work presented here starts with a brief introduction of the subject, the motivation and the main goal. This is followed by the description of the experimental setup, including the details of the oscillator design and simulations, as well as the implementation of the test bead and the Components Technology Test Bed. Finally, the results obtained during the 6 years of experience in space are discussed.

Cayenne pepper productivity in Bali Province tend to decline predicted caused by the traditionally cayenne pepper cultivation applied by farmers related. One of effort to optimize the cayenne pepper productivity is implementation of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) technology in cayenne pepper cultivation. ICM technology can be introduced to the farmers related by technical guidance method at early stage. The goal of its technical guidance method was to find out the changes of farmer’s knowledge and attitude to the ICM technology of cayenne pepper cultivation. Study was conducted in Klungkung Regency used primary data obtained by directly interview using questionnaire to the 30 farmers before and after participate in the ICM technical guidance for cayenne pepper crop cultivation. Collected data was analysed by non-parametric test using Wilcoxon rank sum test. Result indicated that the farmer’s knowledge significant changes to the ICM technology of cayenne pepper cultivation from not know to recognize through this technical guidance method. It was on the same line with the changes of farmer’s attitude namely from hesitate became agree to the ICM component technology of cayenne pepper cultivation. This significance changes of knowledge and attitude were found out in almost all of ICM component technology.

The data gives the key to make the decisions and the complexity of the information from the leads to the bad decisions. There it needed a method for improvement as a result of the amount of this data. This chapter discusses the developing of information systems, by their data, information, and the knowledge resulted by proposing a component identification approach and the management component for data management. The advantage of using component is to manage the information system by dividing it to several parts with less complexity.

‘Jajar Legowo Super’ (Jarwo Super) technique is a technology package comprise of seven component technologies for maximum rice productivity. The technique is one of priority attention in IAARD’s dissemination activity. This paper aims to identify how social, economic characteristics, farmers’ response and application of the technology package. The unit analysis is the component technologies adopted in the Jarwo Super. The Data was taken from 43 farmers purposively (co-operator and non-co-operator) in Tanggamus, Lampung and did descriptive analysis. The results show that ‘legowo’ was the most known component in the jarwo super technique. In contrast inpari 30 was the most ‘implemented and applied’ components. Farmers dominantly use informal network to gather information through other farmers and community leaders. Further, their participation in training is relatively low due to the absence of these activities. However, access to mass media and radio is quite high, although usage internet access is still low. In term of economy aspect, 69 percent respondents use own finance and the rest use access banking and individuals including middlemen and kiosks. To conclude, farmers use single or partial component technology rather that adopt full package of the jarwo Super technique. Only reliable and available component will farmers’ use.

Abstract BALLET (BALloon Locomotion for Extreme Terrain) is a new concept vehicle for robotic surface mobility on planetary bodies with atmospheres. The vehicle is composed of a buoyant balloon with 6 evenly-distributed suspended payload modules each serving as a foot for locomotion over inaccessible rugged terrain. While the physics of BALLET will apply on Venus and Mars, the environmental conditions and available component technology limit our consideration to Titan. We describe the concept in detail, its applications for science missions on Titan, mission deployment scenarios, analyses of the concept under varying environmental conditions and simulations of its locomotion. The concept is shown to be feasible and provides a new approach for exploration of rugged lakes, dunes, shorelines and cryovolcanic regions on Titan.

State-of-the-art reliability assessment typically starts from a given circuit topology, for which the most suitable components are selected using a Physics of Failure analysis. This paper, however, addresses the topology selection stage, which is the foundation in designing reliable converters. Based on an overview of the reliability performance of different components, a methodology is presented as a guideline for comparing topologies to one another. The focus is directed at practical consequences associated with certain designs. Furthermore, an overview is provided on the latest developments in component technology reliability improvements. The developed methodology is mainly intended for demanding applications, where long lifetimes are required or elevated ambient temperatures are present. After the topology selection, an overview of possibilities is given that allows further increasing converter availability. Finally, the methodology is applied to the design of module level converters for building integrated photovoltaics, which is a high temperature application with a high desired lifetime. A prototype and experimental results are presented.
