Massive applications of the power electronic devices and non-linear loads lead to various power quality problems during the microgrids grid-connecting. Aiming at improving power quality of micro-grid, the structure of SCs’ main circuit and control circuit are designed. The model of super-capacitor energy storage system (SCESS) is established. A simulation model of micro-grid is also built up by using MATLAB and the simulation is conducted for different situations. Moreover, under Goldwind micro-grid platform, according to the result of MATLAB modeling and simulation, the SCESS effectively improves the transient power quality of the system.

Hybrid energy storage system (HESS) including battery and super-capacitor can take advantages of both high energy density and high power density. In the stand-alone PV micro-grid, in which two buck/boost bidirectional converters are connected to the DC bus directly, a novel energy management scheme is proposed. After filtering the fluctuating power of the HESS, charge and discharge currents of the battery are controlled by hysteresis control method, the super-capacitor supplies the difference of the power. To leveling off the fluctuating power output of photovoltaic system and control the voltage of the DC bus, a new control strategy applied to the bidirectional converter of the super capacitor is put forward. The feed-forward loops of input voltage, load current and output voltage are introduced to improve the response speed and stability of the system. Results of the simulation show the effectiveness of the proposed energy management and control strategy.

In order to solve the problems which are caused by wind power and solar power on-grid, such as power quality, stability, reliability and so on, this paper proposes wind and solar micro-grid including energy storage system(ESS). The micro-grid uses two buses: AC bus and DC bus. Micro-source current is connected to the grid with the same inverter, which can reduce the micro-grid control difficulties. The energy storage system connected to the grid through the inverter could directly absorb energy from the grid. The DC side of the energy storage system using bidirectional DC / DC converter, which can keep the DC side of the battery storage stable.

This paper presents application of a CHB inverter based SESS. CHB inverter is characterized by cascade connection of multiple single-phase H-bridge (or full bridge) inverter cells. CHB inverter can make SESS flexible in circuit design, reduced voltage steps, and lower EMI. This paper presents circuit architecture design, modeling of CHB inverter based SESS, and control strategy focusing on power and energy balance control among Sub modules (SMs). The simulation results verify that the CHB inverter based SESS have a good performance in both fast power exchange and SM energy balance.
