AbstractUnderwater color image processing has received considerable attention in the last few decades for underwater image-based observation. In this article, a novel underwater image enhancement approach using combining schemes is presented. This study aims to improve color correction under nonuniform illumination conditions. The objective of this approach is threefold. First, to correct nonuniform illumination and enhance contrast in the image, homomorphic filtering is used. Second, the color contrast of an image is equalized by a contrast stretching algorithm in RGB (red, green and blue) color space. Finally, the noise amplified after the previous two steps is suppressed by using wavelet domain denoising based on threshold processing. The comparison of experimental results shows that the proposed approach of underwater image enhancement can correct the color imbalance and is especially suitable for processing underwater color images that have nonuniform lighting.

Underwater image capturing is a challenging task due to attenuation of light in water. Scattering and absorption are the results of light attenuation which lead to faded colors and reduced contrast of images, respectively. To deal with these issues and to provide better visual quality image, various enhancement methods have been proposed. This paper proposes the Dual Domain-based Underwater Image Enhancement (DDUIE) method. DDUIE method provides contrast stretching in approximation band of discrete wavelet transformed image followed by intensity adjustment of different color channels in spatial domain. To further improve the color quality, the image is processed in HSV (Hue–Saturation–Value) color space. Result analysis indicates better results for DDUIE method over state-of-the-art methods. Subjective results of DDUIE method show minimization of the bluish-green effect and reduction of nonuniform illumination up to a certain extent. These lead to enhanced color and image details. Quantitative results show that the Underwater Image Quality Measure (UIQM) and Underwater Color Image Quality Evaluation (UCIQE) values between 1 and 2 and between 0 and 1 have been achieved, respectively, which significantly illustrate that images have been enhanced efficiently and also entropy values between 7 and 8 depict the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of image details.

Color medical images are widely used in the field of medical diagnosis. Image enhancement is one of the most important pretreatment methods which can enhance the quality of images. In this paper, a novel color image enhancement method using Y-H model and wavelet homomorhpic filtering is put forward. The chromaticity numbers matrix and intensity numbers matrix of color images are get using Young-Helmholtz (YH) transform. The chromaticity numbers matrix remains unchanged. Wavelet homomorphic filtering method is used to process intensity numbers matrix . The enhanced intensity numbers matrix and formerly chromaticity numbers matrix are processed by Y-H inverse transformation and disply in RGB color space. The method put forward in the paper is successfully used in color medical image enhancement. Experimental results show that the method have characteristics of nondistortion, better visual effect.

Digital imagery is a two-dimensional image process through a digital computer that is used to manipulate and modify images in various ways. Photos are examples of two-dimensional images that can be processed easily. Each photo in the form of a digital image can be processed through a specific software. In the water environment, the light factor greatly influences the results of the quality of the image obtained. With the deepening of underwater shooting, the results obtained will be the darker the quality of the underwater image. . uneven lighting and bluish tones. One of the factors that influence the recognition results in pattern recognition is the quality of the image that is inputted. The image acquired from the source does not always have good quality. The process of repairing digital images that experience interference in lighting. The lighting repair process uses homomorphic filtering and uses contrast striching and will compare the quality of both methods and test to prove the results of image quality between homomorphic filtering and contrast streching. Until later the results of both methods can be seen which is better. homomorphic filtering and contrast stretching can produce image improvements with pretty good performance. Keywords: Digital Image, Underwater Image, Homomorphic Filtering, Contrast Streching, Matlab R2010a

Background:: Aiming at the problems of color distortion, low clarity and poor visibility of underwater image caused by complex underwater environment, a wavelet fusion method UIPWF for underwater image enhancement is proposed. Methods:: First of all, an improved NCB color balance method is designed to identify and cut the abnormal pixels, and balance the color of R, G and B channels by affine transformation. Then, the color correction map is converted to CIELab color space, and the L component is equalized with contrast limited adaptive histogram to obtain the brightness enhancement map. Finally, different fusion rules are designed for low-frequency and high-frequency components, the pixel level wavelet fusion of color balance image and brightness enhancement image is realized to improve the edge detail contrast on the basis of protecting the underwater image contour. Results:: The experiments demonstrate that compared with the existing underwater image processing methods, UIPWF is highly effective in the underwater image enhancement task, improves the objective indicators greatly, and produces visually pleasing enhancement images with clear edges and reasonable color information. Conclusion:: The UIPWF method can effectively mitigate the color distortion, improve the clarity and contrast, which is applicable for underwater image enhancement in different environments.

Aimed at the two problems of color deviation and poor visibility of the underwater image, this paper proposes an underwater image enhancement method based on the multi-scale fusion and global stretching of dual-model (MFGS), which does not rely on the underwater optical imaging model. The proposed method consists of three stages: Compared with other color correction algorithms, white-balancing can effectively eliminate the undesirable color deviation caused by medium attenuation, so it is selected to correct the color deviation in the first stage. Then, aimed at the problem of the poor performance of the saliency weight map in the traditional fusion processing, this paper proposed an updated strategy of saliency weight coefficient combining contrast and spatial cues to achieve high-quality fusion. Finally, by analyzing the characteristics of the results of the above steps, it is found that the brightness and clarity need to be further improved. The global stretching of the full channel in the red, green, blue (RGB) model is applied to enhance the color contrast, and the selective stretching of the L channel in the Commission International Eclairage-Lab (CIE-Lab) model is implemented to achieve a better de-hazing effect. Quantitative and qualitative assessments on the underwater image enhancement benchmark dataset (UIEBD) show that the enhanced images of the proposed approach achieve significant and sufficient improvements in color and visibility.

This paper proposes a method for improving saturation in the context of hue-preserving color image enhancement. The proposed method handles colors in an RGB color space, which has the form of a cube, and enhances the contrast of a given image by histogram manipulation, such as histogram equalization and histogram specification, of the intensity image. Then, the color corresponding to a target intensity is determined in a hue-preserving manner, where a gamut problem should be taken into account. We first project any color onto a surface in the RGB color space, which bisects the RGB color cube, to increase the saturation without a gamut problem. Then, we adjust the intensity of the saturation-enhanced color to the target intensity given by the histogram manipulation. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher saturation than that given by related methods for hue-preserving color image enhancement.
