Symko is a two-rowed spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) suitable for growing in Eastern Canada. It has high yield, high test weight, large kernels, good lodging resistance and is resistant to powdery mildew. Breeder seed of Symko is being maintained by the Plant Research Centre, Agriculture Canada.Key words: Hordeum vulgare L., barley (two-rowed spring feed)Symko is a high-yielding, two-rowed spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) developed at the Plant Research Centre, Agriculture Canada and tested under number OB751-27 by the Ontario Cereal Crops Committee. It has short rachilla hair and does not meet the quality standards required in a malting type. Registration no. 3135 was issued for Symko on 4 July 1989 by the Food Production and Inspection Branch of Agriculture Canada. This cultivar is named in recognition of Mr. S. Symko’s significant contribution to the cereal breeding program as a former cereal cytogeneticist at the Ottawa Research Station, Agriculture Canada.

Morrison is a two-rowed spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivar developed by the Plant Research Centre, Agriculture Canada, Ottawa. It was selected from a Rodeo/Gitane cross. Morrison has high yield, high test weight, large kernels, good lodging resistance and a high degree of resistance to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis D.C.). AC Hamilton is a six-rowed spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivar bred at the Plant Research Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and evaluated by the Eastern Canada Barley Breeding Group. It was selected from a Leger/OAC Kippen cross and is suitable for growing in Ontario, where it outyielded the check cultivars AC Stephen and Chapais. AC Hamilton is moderately resistant to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei) and is resistant to septoria leaf blotch (Septoria passerinii). Johnston, a six-rowed feed spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) was developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Brandon, Manitoba from a cross involving Klondike, Bonanza and Nord. It has high yield potential across the Canadian prairies, particularly in parts of Alberta, resistance to scald (Rhynchosporium secalis), and excellent field leaf disease ratings.

AAC Bell is a two-row spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivar with high yield, heavy kernel weight, and good lodging resistance. It was tested as CH2714-4 in the Atlantic Recommending Committee for Cereal Crops (2015–2017), Quebec Recommending Committee for Cereal (2015–2017), and Ontario Cereal Crops Committee (2016–2017) trials before being registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in 2018. AAC Bell was developed by the Ottawa Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa, ON. AAC Bell is recommended for barley growing areas in eastern Canada.
