In this lecture for schoolboys, Winnicott puts forwards the view that psychology simply means the study of human nature and that it is a science, just as physics, physiology and biology are sciences. He stresses that psychoanalysis has only recently become recognized as a serious subject and that the psychology of delinquency must be studied as a science, as intuitive understanding will not prevent doctors, courts, and others in authority from making mistakes in the management of difficult children.
