Low back pain is one of the most common diseases affecting 70% to 80% of population. Low back pain affects the people of all ages from children to elder one. Among various causes of low back pain Sciatica is most appearing one. Sciatica is a condition in which pain radiating along the sciatica nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back. Sciatica pain sometimes hampers the person daily activities because of its intensity. As per Ayurvedic classics its features closely resembles the Gridhrasi. In Gridhrasi pain starts from Sphik (hip) and runs down to Kati Prusta (back), Uru (thigh), Jaanu (knee), Jangha (calf), and Pada (foot) along with pain it may be associated with stiffness, heaviness based on Dosha involvement. Contemporary medicine has limitation with short term pain relief or surgical interventions which are sometime more costly to afford and also long term pain medication will have side effects. Ayurvedic treatment has good scope in managing Gridhrasi with Panchakarma procedures with oral medication. Here in this case study Patient was suffering from low back pain radiating to right lower limb she was treated with one course of Katibasti followed by Sarvanga basphasweda with one course of Yogabasti with oral medication. After treatment patient showed remarkable improvement in symptoms, shows improvement of Oswestry Disability score from 68.88% to 22.22% that is moderate disability and would do all routine daily activities properly.

AbstractIntroduction. The aim of this study was to examine women participating in fitness activities regarding their level of disability in daily activities and lumbar lordosis.Material and methods. Data were collected from 68 females between the ages of 25-70 participating in fitness exercises. The Oswestry Disability Index was applied to measure the level of disability due to the low back pain in everyday life. The angle of lumbar lordosis was measured using a Saunders’ digital inclinometer.Results. The results of the study confirmed the existence of problems related to low back pain in people performing sedentary work. There were no correlations between lumbar lordosis angle and the level of disability in daily activities of the groups. The low back pain increases especially among people performing sedentary work.Conclusions. The results of this study suggest that work in a sitting position is not associated with a decrease in the angle of lordosis in relation to another work than in a sitting position. Sitting work can be an indirect cause of back pain and slight disability in everyday life by weakening postural muscles.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a common problem in pregnant woman. Elastic tape is an alternative method that may reduce low back pain. OBJECTIVES: To compare the effect of elastic tape to placebo tape in the treatment of low back pain in pregnant women. METHODS: Forty pregnant women were allocated into two groups: elastic group (n= 20) and placebo group (n= 20). All participants were taped by either stretched (elastic group) or non-stretched (placebo group) Kinesio tape at the lower back area for one week. RESULTS: After the application of stretched elastic tape, lower back pain was significantly reduced by 29.4% (p= 0.003) immediately post-taping and by a further 75.4% after wearing the tape for a week. Compared to the placebo group, lower back pain was significantly reduced in the elastic group after one week of wearing the tape (p< 0.001). Compared to placebo, the application of elastic tape significantly reduced the disability score (Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire) after one week of wearing the tape (p= 0.018). Taping to the back improved walking speed (immediately and after one week) in both the elastic (p< 0.001, p< 0.001) and placebo groups (p< 0.001, p= 0.001); however, the application of either tape had little effect on posture change. CONCLUSION: Elastic tape reduced back pain and improved physical function in pregnant women compared to the placebo tape.
