Captive portal networks are in great demand because users have privileged authentication in the form of usernames and passwords to enter the LAN network without having to share with other users. However, the captive portal network is difficult to implement redundant connection because it must be in the form of a ring topology and the application of a bridge network. Captive portal is a web page for the authentication process to enter the network where the authentication back end can use radius, kerberos, ldap with the AAA framework. Meanwhile, fault tolerance is a redundant connection mechanism as an alternative path provider if the main path is broken. Here there is a tiered mechanism so that fault tolerance can be implemented into the captive portal network. This study describes the process of designing a captive portal network starting from analyzing, conceptualizing and finally designing the network itself. The final result of this research is 2 pieces of redundancy connection network design to the captive portal framework.

Fault-tolerance and lookup consistency are considered crucial properties for building applications on top of structured overlay networks. Many of these networks use the ring topology for the organization or their peers. The network must handle multiple joins, leaves and failures of peers while keeping the connection between every pair of successor-predecessor correct. This property makes the maintenance of the ring very costly and temporarily impossible to achieve, requiring periodic stabilization for fixing the ring. We introduce the relaxed-ring topology that does not rely on a perfect successor-predecessor relationship and it does not need a any periodic maintenance. Leaves and failures are considered as the same type of event providing a fault-tolerant and self-organizing maintenance of the ring. Relaxed-ring's limitations with respect to failure handling are formally identified, providing strong guarantees to develop applications on top of the architecture. Besides permanent failures, the paper analyses temporary failures and false suspicions caused by broken links, which are often ignored.

Cloud computing technologies and infrastructure facilities are coming up in a big way making it cost effective for the users to implement their IT based solutions to run business in most cost-effective and economical way. Many intricate issues however, have cropped-up which must be addressed to be able to use clouds the purpose for which they are designed and implemented. Among all, fault tolerance and securing the data stored on the clouds takes most of the importance. Continuous availability of the services is dependent on many factors. Faults bound to happen within a network, software, and platform or within the infrastructure which are all used for establishing the cloud. The network that connects various servers, devices, peripherals etc., have to be fault tolerant to start-with so that intended and un-interrupted services to the user can be made available. A novel network design method that leads to achieve high availability of the network and thereby the cloud itself has been presented in this paper
