This case study on English, French, and German penny magazines from the 1830s aims to make visible a mostly overlooked way of producing and diffusing knowledge—not least ethnographic knowledge—in early illustrated magazines. By investigating an example of trading stereotyped wood engravings between England, France, and Germany, the present paper retraces the development of a periodical-specific international verbal-visual syntax which was triggered by the emergence of illustration. It retraces how magazine makers learned within a few months to give meaning to illustrated periodicals’ layout, to the arrangement of thematically heterogeneous articles’ letterpress and images on a double-page spread—and how they used the semanticized mise-en-page of their magazines’ openings to express international connections and tensions. Thus, the page design of illustrated periodicals turns out to be a means of an implicit ethnography, an instrument to render the profile of the own nation, ἔθνος, readable and visible by γραφή, by printed writing and wood-engraved drawings.

<p>The online presence of tertiary libraries is becoming increasingly important, however, research (OCLC, 2010) suggests that library websites are being shunned in favour of commercial search engines. Some scholars (Reidsma, 2012; McCann et al., 2010) attribute this to poor website design. Websites are a valid communication concern and what content is displayed, as well as how it is displayed on library home pages has implications for usability, findability and user perception. Tertiary library websites need to be attractive, modern and user focused in nature. Content needs to be arranged in a way that supports smooth navigation so that users are encouraged to engage with the library.</p>

The wireless communication network has a huge promotion effect on data processing. As an important standard for internet data transmission, XML markup language is currently widely used in the internet. The rapid development of XML has brought fresh blood to the research of database. This article is aimed at studying the application of wireless network communication in the storage of the XML metadata database of Wushu Historical Archives. One part uses data load-balancing algorithms and two-way path constraint algorithms to conduct research on the metadata storage of XML databases, such as document size, document loading, and document query. Combining wireless technology and comparing with SGML and HTML, it highlights the flexibility and importance of XML database. The other part analyzes the XML database of Wushu Historical Archives itself and uses questionnaire surveys combined with the experience of 30 users randomly checked to provide constructive suggestions for the construction of XML database, such as strengthening the operation page design, text, and graphics. The experimental results show that the time consumed by the XML database in the case of bidirectional path indexing is 0.37 s, and the time consumed in the case of unidirectional path indexing is 0.27 s. This data shows that the application of wireless network communication technology has played an important role in the easy update and flexibility of the XML database. The data load capacity presented by the two path indexes is inconsistent; the current experience of XML database mainly focuses on the copy of the database quantity.

The principle of the zoning system, which regulates regional zones for prospective students, is to bring the student's domicile closer to the school, where zoning is determined at every level by the Regional Government following its authority. In implementing zoning, it is important to pay attention to the amount of available capacity according to the availability of the number of school-age children at each level in the area. Depok City has 13 public high schools spread over 11 sub-districts that can accommodate 3,858 junior high school graduates. This became disproportionate to the number of outputs or junior high school graduates who were more than the available capacity. Based on the use of LBS technology, it was hoped that it would be easier to obtain information on the distance from the user's domicile to the destination school, where in the Depok there are 13 State Senior High Schools that are the reference. In designing the Location Based Services (LBS) application, SMAN Depok City used case diagrams, navigation structure designs, storyboards and database designs. The page design and database design results were expected to be used as a guide for programmers in making applications.

A Review of: Logan, J., & Spence, M. (2021). Content strategy in LibGuides: An exploratory study. The Journal of Academic Librarianship, 47(1), Article 102282. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.acalib.2020.102282 Abstract Objective – To determine what strategies academic libraries use to govern creation and maintenance of their LibGuides. Design – Online survey questionnaire. Setting – A selection of academic libraries that use Springshare’s LibGuide system, mainly in the United States and Canada. Subjects – Academic libraries with administrator level access to LibGuides at 120 large and small, private and public schools.  Methods – Researchers made their online questionnaire available on a Springshare lounge and recruited participants through electronic mailing lists. Respondents were self-selected participants. The survey consisted of 35 questions, including several about their institution’s size and type, the number of LibGuides available through their library, and how their guides are created and reviewed. There was space available for comments. The survey stated that the researchers’ goal is to complete an “environmental scan of content strategies” in LibGuides at academic institutions.  Main Results – Of the 120 responding institutions, 88% are located in either the United States or Canada and 53% reported that they do have content guidelines for LibGuide authors. Content guidelines might include parameters for topics, target audiences, or purpose. Parameters for structural elements, including page design, content reuse policies, naming conventions, and navigation, were most commonly represented at those institutions that reported having guidelines. Seventy-seven percent of respondents reported that their LibGuides do not go through a formal review process prior to publication. Regarding LibGuide maintenance, 58% reported that LibGuides are reviewed as needed, while 27% indicated a more systematic approach. In most cases, the LibGuide reviewer is the author, though sometimes a LibGuide administrator may take on a review role. The most common considerations for LibGuide review are currency, accuracy, usage, and consistency. Of the responding institutions, 74% reported that they do not conduct any user testing of their guides. Two of the biggest barriers to introducing and maintaining LibGuide guidelines identified in the survey were lack of time and a sense of librarian ownership over content and workflow. The strong culture of academic freedom may make some librarians resistant to following institutional guidelines. Survey respondents noted that, where content guidelines are present, they tend to address “low hanging fruit” issues, such as page design and naming conventions, rather than more complex issues around tone and messaging. Conclusion – Content creators tend to have many competing priorities, so a workflow and guideline system might help librarians spend less time on their guides. Despite a large amount of research on LibGuide best practices regarding content strategy, few institutions seem to be taking systematic steps to implement them. Further research examining the experiences of LibGuide authors and administrators and on the effectiveness of content strategy practices is necessary.

ABSTRACT Objective: The study draws attention to designing a dyskinesia assessment system using a Kinect sensor to improve the efficiency of rehabilitation training. Methods: The login page design. Step 2: System functions setting. Relevant movement guidance content and rehabilitation evaluation content are incorporated in the system to make rehabilitation training efficient and orderly. Comprehensive data processing, evaluation, and export functions are necessary to reference rehabilitation physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Step 3: System modules design. Based on the system settings, corresponding functional modules have been designed and developed. With each module realizing its specific functions, it must be ensured that there is a certain degree of correlation between the modules. Step 4: The system function framework design. Results: A simple and comfortable login page is designed; 2. The system is capable of rehabilitation training and data management; 3. Specifically designed modules include sports collection module, rehabilitation training module, rehabilitation evaluation module, and information management module; 4. After logging in, the patient should first search for the rehabilitation plan in the rehabilitation training function module and then perform rehabilitation training regarding the rehabilitation plan. Kinect synchronously obtains patient sports information throughout the training process, and patients can obtain rehabilitation assessment information and automatically save it in the information management module. Conclusions: The Kinect-based dyskinesia assessment and training system designed in this study can heighten the efficiency of rehabilitation training for patients with dyskinesia, and it is highly suggested in clinical practice. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment results.
