Intraosseous ganglion, which is generally seen in metaphyseal-epiphyseal regions of long bones, is not a rare disorder. It is extremely rare in the talus, however. Differential diagnosis of a cystic talar lesion should include enchondroma, chondroblastoma, giant cell tumor, and unicameral bone cyst. This article presents a case of intraosseous ganglion of the talus in a 38-year-old woman treated with a new surgical approach and technique. The patient had mild ankle pain at the arc of motion in her right ankle that increased with activity. Radiographs and magnetic resonance images showed a cystic lesion in the medial side of the talar dome. It was treated by curettage and autocorticocancellous bone grafting through an opening in the talonavicular joint without disturbing the intact talar dome cartilage. One month after the operation, the patient had an excellent clinical outcome. This approach and technique can be used to treat other lesions of the talus that do not involve the joint space. A unicameral bone cyst is a relatively uncommon, benign bone tumor found in the metaphysis of long bones, such as the humerus and the femur, in skeletally immature persons. In the foot, these benign, fluid-filled cavities are most commonly found within the os calcis. We present a case report of a 10-year-old female with a unicameral bone cyst of the medial cuneiform.

Bone cysts are a very rare orthopedic pathology in veterinary medicine, the general prevalence of which is unknown. A unicameral bone cyst was diagnosed in an adult female Teckel dog with a limp that was treated surgically by filling the defect with marine bioapatites. The treatment was effective and at 8 weeks the defect had remodeled 50.24%. Eighteen months after surgery, the defect had remodeled 94.23%. The limp disappeared after surgery, and functional recovery was good in all stages after surgery. No adverse reactions were observed at the local or systemic level. This is the first report of a benign bone cyst in an lame adult female Teckel successfully treated with a novel marine bioapatite.
