Measurement System Analysis (MSA) provides decision makers with a useful suite of tools for understanding whether variation should be attributed to an assessment system itself or the actual item or program being assessed. This paper introduces the Attribute Gage R&R, using a study of The Ohio State University Libraries’ mechanism for measuring quality in e-mail reference transactions as an example. An ideal tool for examining assessment programs that require subjective interpretation, the Attribute Gage R&R can assist library organizations in understanding their processes and validating the utility of data collected through their measurement systems.

A successful quality assurance program in any organization needs good measurement systems. The concept of measurement system refers to the manpower, machines, materials, methods and mother nature involved in obtaining measurements. Measurement system analysis (MSA) is a set of procedures which are used to determine the amount of variation due to the measurement system and if the measurement data are valid. Most problematic measurement system issues come when the results of a measurement system are qualitative values such as “pass” or “fail” (attribute data) rather than quantitative values (variable data). Because in industry many measurement systems deal with qualitative data, the assessment of the visual inspection process is a contemporary approach for quality assurance in most manufacturing organizations. The aim of this paper is to apply the MSA attribute study in a local company from the Sibiu region supplying products for automotive industry, to ensure the quality of the visual inspection process for one of their parts, respectively the exterior lighting projectors (Day Running Light, DRLs). The output data were analyzed using Minitab software. The conclusion was that the visual inspection process must be improved by appraisers training and developing panel with samples for the most common defect types of DRLs.

The paper presents approaches to Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR) analysis. The aim of the paper is to compare three methods of GRR analysis - A&R method, ANOVA and EMP III. The first part gives insight to use of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) since properly planned and executed measurement systems can provide a good basis for decision making in companies. One of the new approaches will be presented that is different from the others described by AIAG or VDA guide. Compared to known A&R method and ANOVA, EMP III interpret the results in more detail. Beyond the information about variability of measurement process, the approach provides other useful parameters as attenuation of process signals, change of detecting error shift and an ability to track process improvements. Wider use of the results is illustrated by an example of measuring the dimensions of fasteners.

This article investigated measurement system analysis and system thinking in Six Sigma, as well as the factors that influence these actions. If the measurement system being used to accumulate data from the process delivers dependable and accurate results, the measurement system analysis regulates it. Process improvement initiatives can be derailed by faulty measurement systems. Also, managers who have read faulty data can be misled into making wrong decisions. To collect trustworthy data, a reliable measurement system is established with this process. A method to assess an organization as a system and interpret its practices as a whole with Six Sigma is system thinking. Also, fixing a system as a whole helps to identify the real causes of issues and to know where to address them. This article addressed the contribution of these two methods to an overall success of an organization operating Six Sigma. The most current variables, concepts, and models were studied within operations and project management. By using a design-science-investigate strategy, this study approved of a valuable growth reveal for reasonable and hypothetical application. This study allowed us to generate a fitting assessment model that will fill the research void. Also, this study contributed to the engineering field with improved project success rates and team communication.

This report highlights some of the major developments in the area of speech anatomy and physiology drawing from the author's own research experience during his years at the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois. He has benefited greatly from mentors including Professors James Curtis, Kenneth Moll, and Hughlett Morris at the University of Iowa and Professor Paul Lauterbur at the University of Illinois. Many colleagues have contributed to the author's work, especially Professors Jerald Moon at the University of Iowa, Bradley Sutton at the University of Illinois, Jamie Perry at East Carolina University, and Youkyung Bae at the Ohio State University. The strength of these researchers and their students bodes well for future advances in knowledge in this important area of speech science.

Background:Educating trainees during cardiology fellowship is a process in constant evolution, with program directors regularly adapting to increasing demands and regulations as they strive to prepare graduates for practice in today’s healthcare environment.Methods and Results:In a 10-year follow-up to a previous manuscript regarding fellowship education, we reviewed the literature regarding the most topical issues facing training programs in 2010, describing our approach at The Ohio State University.Conclusion:In the midst of challenges posed by the increasing complexity of training requirements and documentation, work hour restrictions, and the new definitions of quality and safety, we propose methods of curricula revision and collaboration that may serve as an example to other medical centers.
