The paper presents a novel system for monitoring of the work of industrial belt conveyor. It is based on the strain gauges placed directly on the roller surface that measure pressing force of the belt on the roller. Automatical operation of the measurement system minimizes impact of an operator on the measurement results. Experimental researches included the stability of indications during 5 days, Type A uncertainty estimation and equipment variation EV calculations. Expanded uncertainty calculated for the level of confidence 95% was below 0.1% of the actually measured value, and percentage repeatability %EV = 9.5% was obtained. It can be considered satisfactory, since usually it is required %EV < 10% for new measurement systems.

Purpose Plantar force is the interface pressure existing between the foot plantar surface and the shoe sole during static or dynamic gait. Plantar force derived from gait and posture plays a critical role for rehabilitation, footwear design, clinical diagnostics and sports activities, and so on. This paper aims to review plantar force measurement technologies based on piezoelectric materials, which can make the reader understand preliminary works systematically and provide convenience for researchers to further study. Design/methodology/approach The review introduces working principle of piezoelectric sensor, structures and hardware design of plantar force measurement systems based on piezoelectric materials. The structures of sensors in plantar force measurement systems can be divided into four kinds, including monolayered sensor, multilayered sensor, tri-axial sensor and other sensor. The previous studies about plantar force measurement system based on piezoelectric technology are reviewed in detail, and their characteristics and performances are compared. Findings A good deal of measurement technologies have been studied by researchers to detect and analyze the plantar force. Among these measurement technologies, taking advantage of easy fabrication and high sensitivity, piezoelectric sensor is an ideal candidate sensing element. However, the number and arrangement of the sensors will influence the characteristics and performances of plantar force measurement systems. Therefore, it is necessary to further study plantar force measurement system for better performances. Originality/value So far, many plantar force measurement systems have been proposed, and several reviews already introduced plantar force measurement systems in the aspect of types of pressure sensors, experimental setups for foot pressure measurement analysis and the technologies used in plantar shear stress measurements. However, this paper reviews plantar force measurement systems based on piezoelectric materials. The structures of piezoelectric sensors in the measurement systems are discussed. Hardware design applied to measurement system is summarized. Moreover, the main point of further study is presented in this paper.

The article presents the negative aspects of the influence of static and dynamic acceleration on the accuracy of pressure measurement for a selected type of transmitter. The influence of static accelerations from catalog notes was shown and compared with the tests results for a few selected sensors. The results of research on the influence of dynamic acceleration for various types of its variability for selected converters are presented. Moreover, a method of measurement patented by the authors that uses a complex transducer is shown. The method allows for more accurate measurements on moving objects. The tests were performed based on the proposed method. The obtained results of the influence of acceleration on the classical sensor as well as the construction using the proposed method are shown. The paper presents approximate pressure measurement errors resulting from the influence of acceleration. For example, errors in measuring the speed of an airplane may occur without the proposed method. The last part of the article presents a unique design dedicated to a multi-point pressure measurement system, which uses the presented method of eliminating the influence of accelerations on the pressure measurement.

Light pen 3D vision coordinate measurement systems are increasingly widely used due to their advantages, such as small size, convenient carrying and wide applicability. The posture of the light pen is an important factor affecting accuracy. The pose domain of the pen needs to be given so that the measurement system has a suitable measurement range to obtain more qualified parameters. The advantage of the self-calibration method is that the entire self-calibration process can be completed at the measurement site without any auxiliary equipment. After the system camera calibration is completed, we take several pictures of the same measurement point with different poses to obtain the conversion matrix of the picture, and then use spherical fitting, the generalized inverse method of least squares, and the principle of position invariance within the pose domain range. The combined stylus tip center self-calibration method calculates the actual position of the light pen probe. The experimental results show that the absolute error is stable below 0.0737 mm and that the relative error is stable below 0.0025 mm. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the method; the measurement accuracy of the system can meet the basic industrial measurement requirements.

For automatic temperature measuring and logging purposes in solar thermal experiments, a single board computer - Raspberry Pi based and sensor system is proposed. Different data sets are observed for sensors, thermometers, and thermocouples and they are compared. The consistency of the automated temperature measurement system is also verified.

Abstract Aspheres and freeform surfaces play an important role in today's optics industry. However, the measurement of such complex surfaces is still challenging even with state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, and there is an urgent need in industry for a non-contact, highly accurate reference measurement technique. To meet this demand, at PTB, a metrological reference system for the contact-free form measurement of aspheres and freeform surfaces is under development. The measurement system is based on a tilted-wave interferometer. Advances in computational capabilities have made it possible to solve the complex inverse problems associated with this measurement system and to develop sophisticated analysis procedures for reconstructing the surface under test from the measured interferogram data. In this paper, we will present the status of the tilted-wave interferometer-based measurement system at PTB, describe the analysis procedures we have designed and show initial measurement results. The benefit of the implementation presented here is that it allows insight to be gained into the performance of the measurement system and enables traceable measurements to be established with low uncertainty.
