In this chapter, the authors discuss two examples of digital credential implementations at Penn State University. Penn State University is a large R1 with a main campus located in Central Pennsylvania. The purpose of this chapter is to situate the broader digital credential movement within one example of how it has played out in higher education. Within this one example, the implementations between the University Libraries and College of Engineering have similarities and differences. This chapter demonstrates that the purpose and goals of a digital credentialing program heavily influence decisions made from the beginning of the effort through maturation. Outside forces that impact what a digital credentialing effort looks like will be discussed such as administrative requirements and concerns over visual identity. Finally, this chapter provides thoughts on where digital credentials are headed within higher education.

In efforts to strengthen its digitization program, the University Libraries of University of Guam have assembled members from its Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Library and Micronesian Area Research Center to identify standards and frameworks to facilitate sustainable, long-term access and preservation of its indigenous and historic collections. Following the 2019 Pacific Islands Association of Libraries Annual Conference hosted at the University of Guam RFK Library and the unveiling of the Para Hulo' Strategic Plan, a greater institutional emphasis has been placed on the need for digitally accessible archives and remote access. University Libraries investigates the need to balance utilitarian functions of traditional librarianship with the democratic ideals inherent in the profession, as expressed through revisiting a range of literature to articulate the connections between digital librarianship, traditional librarianship, and analog to digital conversion.

The study focused on assessing the management of ICT wastes in three federal university libraries in Southwest, Nigeria, namely Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and Federal University Oye-Ekiti. The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study consisted of all library personnel in the three libraries. Using purposive sampling technique, a questionnaire was administered on eight library personnel from each of the three libraries. The study discovered that the libraries generate high-to-moderate levels of ICT waste, and several methods were available for managing such waste. It was also revealed that they experience several challenges relating to ICT waste management in the libraries. The study recommends the need to provide documented policy, infrastructure, and funding for ICT waste management. The study is original in the sense that empirical data generated by this study may assist policy makers in drafting ICT waste management policy, specifically targeting university libraries.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the digital marketing initiatives taken up by the central universities of northeast India through their library websites to promote the use of their information products and services by their clienteles.Methodology: For the present study, websites of nine central universities of northeast India have been surveyed for evaluation. All features of the websites have been examined. A checklist has been designed for collecting the necessary data. To analyze the results, simple statistical calculations were used.Findings: It is found that the majority of the library websites (66.69%) have a direct link to the parent website, and they provide general information, such as library rules, library team/staff, about library, library staff directory, timing, library notices, news, and events. With regard to language, 77.77% of the websites used both English and Hindi languages. The majority of them also provide information about services such as OPAC, internet access, circulation, membership, current awareness service, reprographic service, anti-plagiarism, library orientation, and newsletter. However, the University Libraries under study are yet to exploit the full potential of the website as the clienteles are lagging behind the effective use of the same. The use of social networking sites by the libraries, as the study shows, is also not much encouraging.Research limitations: The paper is limited to nine central university libraries of northeast India. Researchers in the future can take up other problems associated with private and state-owned universities in this regard.Practical implications: Central universities of northeast India must come forward to improve their library websites featuring other portals and provisions to enhance in marketing their information products and other services in the digital environment to serve the community effectively.

AbstractOver the last two decades of the 21st century, university libraries have faced a major challenge: to align the traditional support of information with technological innovations aimed at teaching and learning. This becomes quite evident in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic, which forced information units to further rethink the way they manage and offer their products in virtual environments. Due to the restrictions imposed, libraries started to invest massively in training, webinars (web conferences) and online events, such as: seminars, congresses and workshops. The general objective was aimed at describing the use of media education by the University Libraries of UFRR and UFAM. In order to carry out this work, a research characterized as a case study was adopted, in addition to descriptive and qualitative approaches, with the aim of establishing the correlation between the informational quality and the services provided. It is proposed that the studies, objects of this work, continue, producing new actions and knowledge.

The global scenario of uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how quickly university libraries can respond to changes in the educational and research ecosystems of their institutions. The new (6th) issue of the journal “University Library at a New Stage of Social Communications Development. Conference Proceedings” is exactly about this. The papers discuss new behaviours / work of library staff based on digital communication technologies, our projects, our goals, our hopes, as well as our doubts and concerns for the maximum contribution of libraries to the development of university communities in a constantly changing world. Full-length articles about the most interesting world library and information practices and ideas were selected, reviewed and recommended by members of the international editorial board of the similarly-named conference (UniLibNSD-2021), which was held in a hybrid format on October 7-8, 2021 in Dnipro, Ukraine. The title “University Library at a New Stage of Social Communications Development. Conference Proceedings” has been accepted in Scopus (2021).

With the development of big data, all walks of life in society have begun to venture into big data to serve their own enterprises and departments. Big data has been embraced by university digital libraries. The most cumbersome work for the management of university libraries is document retrieval. This article uses Hadoop algorithm to extract semantic keywords and then calculates semantic similarity based on the literature retrieval keyword calculation process. The fast-matching method is used to determine the weight of each keyword, so as to ensure an efficient and accurate document retrieval in digital libraries, thus completing the design of the document retrieval method for university digital libraries based on Hadoop technology.
