The ground-source heat pump is a system which takes the shallow surface soil energy as the source of heating and cooling. The temperature of ground source is relatively stable throughout the year, which makes the ground-source heat pump have the higher operation efficiency compared with the traditional air-conditioning system.Study on the ground-source heat pump with properties of thermal dynamics used in heating and air comditioning by ecomomic analysis is still an important issue. In this paper, the ground-source heat pump and the traditional heating and air-conditioning system have been compared in terms of their economic competitiveness. Firstly, it is required to compare the ground-source heat pump with the traditional heating method in terms of the heating economy. Afterwards, it is necessary to compare the ground-source heat pump with the conventional electric refrigeration in terms of the air-conditioning economy. Finally, it is needed to conduct the comprehensive and economic analysis for the ground-source heat pump and the boilers and air conditioning, which includes four programs.

For the air conditioning system of a modern building, the paper proposes a design method of composite cold and heat sources system based on the ground source heat pump. The author describes the design principle of this system, the design of ground heat exchanger system and the control of soil heat pump system etc. Through the actual measurement, this design greatly reduces power consumption and can be used as references for future applications.

The technology of ground-source heat pump is a revolutionary new technology emerging in the field of central air conditioners for buildings in China. Its application in Hohhot grew continuously in recent years. Based on the demonstration project of general office building of the Development & Reform Commission, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, this paper studies the application of ground-source heat pump air conditioning system with supporting heat source in northern cold area, analyzing the energy consumption of system operation, presenting some problems in the operation and solutions thereof, and concluding that the ground-source heat pump air conditioning system is feasible in Hohhot.

A constant temperature and humidity air-conditioning system driven by a ground source heat pump was designed and constructed in an archives building in Shanghai. The system consists of a water-to-water heat pump and 280 boreholes with 80 m in depth. During the operation in summer, the heat extraction from the condenser of the heat pump was divided: Part was rejected to the soil, while another was used to reheat the air in air handling units (AHUs). According to the experimental results under a typical summer weather condition of Shanghai, the average coefficient of performance of the heat pump was 5.4. The average indoor temperature and relative humidity of the archives house were 22.8°C and 46.6%, respectively. Since part of the heat extraction from the condenser was used to reheat the air in AHUs, the heat rejected to the soil was reduced by 23%, which was helpful for the earth energy conservation. According to the theoretical analysis, the distance between two boreholes is suggested to be 4–5 m. The deepness of the boreholes is suggested to be 80–100 m in Shanghai.
