We have performed a systematic study for the nuclear structure of superheavy nuclei with a special emphasis on the nuclei with possible central depletion of proton and neutron density in the mass region [Formula: see text] using the Relativistic Hartree–Bogoliubov (RHB) framework. It has been observed that in the case of neutron density distribution, the occurrence of central depletion is related to the occupancy of 4s orbital and it is found to decrease with increasing occupancy of the 4s orbital. On the other hand, in the case of proton density distribution, the central density depletion is mainly due to the lowering of weakly bound p-orbital states close to the continuum as it is energetically favored to lower the Coulomb repulsion in the case of superheavy nuclei. Also, occupation probability of the lower angular momentum states (p-orbitals) lying near the Fermi level is strongly suppressed due to the weak centrifugal barrier and strong Coulomb repulsion in comparison to large angular momentum states (contributing to surface region mainly), resulting in central density depletion. Among the considered cases in the present work, the maximum depletion is observed for [Formula: see text] and for [Formula: see text]Og under spherically symmetric and axially deformed cases, respectively.

Abstract We study the effects of higher-order deformations βλ (λ = 4,6,8, and 10) on the ground state properties of superheavy nuclei (SHN) near the deformed doubly magic nucleus 270Hs by using the multidimensionally-constrained (MDC) relativistic mean-field (RMF) model with five effective interactions PC-PK1, PK1, NL3∗, DD-ME2, and PKDD. The doubly magic properties of 270Hs are featured by the large energy gaps at N = 162 and Z = 108 in the single-particle spectra. By investigating the binding energies and single-particle levels of270Hs in multidimensional deformation space, we find that the deformation β6 has the greatest impact on the binding energy among these higher-order deformations and influences the shell gaps considerably. Similar conclusions hold for other SHN near 270Hs. Our calculations demonstrate that the deformation β6 must be considered when studying SHN by using MDC-RMF.

In order to describe scattering, fusion, fission and ground state masses, Krappe and collaborators developed unified nuclear potential, by generalizing liquid drop model. They have incorporated phenomenological parameters accounting for the attractive force between two separated fragments. One of the phenomenological parameters involved in this model is the range of folded Yukawa function, which accounts for surface diffuseness of the potential and short range attractive interaction. The role of range of folding function of Yukawa-plus-exponential potential is analyzed for alpha decay of heavy and superheavy nuclei. Significant effect of this function is noted in preformation probability which improves the accuracy of half-lives of alpha decay. Half-lives for alpha decay are better obtained for two values of the range of folding function 0.54 and 0.8[Formula: see text]fm for heavy and superheavy mass regions, respectively. The study confirms the associated shell structure [Formula: see text] in heavy nuclei and [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in superheavy nuclei. The calculations are extended to predict the half-lives of superheavy nuclei with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] which are not yet synthesized experimentally.
