Abstract We investigate and characterize the dynamics of operator growth in irrational two-dimensional conformal field theories. By employing the oscillator realization of the Virasoro algebra and CFT states, we systematically implement the Lanczos algorithm and evaluate the Krylov complexity of simple operators (primaries and the stress tensor) under a unitary evolution protocol. Evolution of primary operators proceeds as a flow into the ‘bath of descendants’ of the Verma module. These descendants are labeled by integer partitions and have a one-to-one map to Young diagrams. This relationship allows us to rigorously formulate operator growth as paths spreading along the Young’s lattice. We extract quantitative features of these paths and also identify the one that saturates the conjectured upper bound on operator growth.

Abstract The attractor equations for an arbitrary one-parameter family of Calabi-Yau manifolds are studied in the large complex structure region. These equations are solved iteratively, generating what we term an N-expansion, which is a power series in the Gromov-Witten invariants of the manifold. The coefficients of this series are associated with integer partitions. In important cases we are able to find closed-form expressions for the general term of this expansion. To our knowledge, these are the first generic solutions to attractor equations that incorporate instanton contributions. In particular, we find a simple closed-form formula for the entropy associated to rank two attractor points, including those recently discovered. The applications of our solutions are briefly discussed. Most importantly, we are able to give an expression for the Wald entropy of black holes that includes all genus 0 instanton corrections.

International audience In earlier work generalizing a 1977 theorem of Alladi, the authors proved a partition-theoretic formula to compute arithmetic densities of certain subsets of the positive integers N as limiting values of q-series as q → ζ a root of unity (instead of using the usual Dirichlet series to compute densities), replacing multiplicative structures of N by analogous structures in the integer partitions P. In recent work, Wang obtains a wide generalization of Alladi's original theorem, in which arithmetic densities of subsets of prime numbers are computed as values of Dirichlet series arising from Dirichlet convolutions. Here the authors prove that Wang's extension has a partition-theoretic analogue as well, yielding new q-series density formulas for any subset of N. To do so, we outline a theory of q-series density calculations from first principles, based on a statistic we call the "q-density" of a given subset. This theory in turn yields infinite families of further formulas for arithmetic densities.

International audience The minimal excludant or "mex" function for an integer partition π of a positive integer n, mex(π), is the smallest positive integer that is not a part of π. Andrews and Newman introduced σmex(n) to be the sum of mex(π) taken over all partitions π of n. Ballantine and Merca generalized this combinatorial interpretation to σrmex(n), as the sum of least r-gaps in all partitions of n. In this article, we study the arithmetic density of σ_2 mex(n) and σ_3 mex(n) modulo 2^k for any positive integer k.

Abstract We study the large momentum limit of the monster potentials of Bazhanov-Lukyanov-Zamolodchikov, which — according to the ODE/IM correspondence — should correspond to excited states of the Quantum KdV model. We prove that the poles of these potentials asymptotically condensate about the complex equilibria of the ground state potential, and we express the leading correction to such asymptotics in terms of the roots of Wronskians of Hermite polynomials. This allows us to associate to each partition of N a unique monster potential with N roots, of which we compute the spectrum. As a consequence, we prove — up to a few mathematical technicalities — that, fixed an integer N , the number of monster potentials with N roots coincides with the number of integer partitions of N , which is the dimension of the level N subspace of the quantum KdV model. In striking accordance with the ODE/IM correspondence.
