Renewable energy is one of the most abundant energies in our planet. In order to satisfy the world demand of electrical energy, solar and wind energy may be used. Identical to all other types of power generation plants, the integration of these renewable energy sources in smart power grid has an impact on its operation. Thus, when the electrical power is injected into the power grid by these energy sources, the system electrical parameters must be well monitored for synchronization purpose. This can be accomplished with the aid of synchro-phasors measurement units. The phase angle of the utility is a critical parameter for the operation of power devices feeding power into the grid such as PV and wind energy inverters. There are many techniques to obtain the grid phase angle such as the zero-crossing detection and the orthogonal phase locked loop. This research work discusses the use of PMUs (Phasor Measurement Unit) for providing this important parameter to system synchronization in the case of high penetration of solar or wind energy in the power grid.

Sustained growth in the demand with unprecedented investments in the transmission infrastructure resulted in narrow operational margins for power system operators across the globe. As a result, power networks are operating near to stability limits. This has demanded the electrical utilities to explore new avenues for control and protection of wide area systems. Present supervisory control and data acquisition/energy management systems (SCADA/EMS) can only facilitate steady state model of the network, whereas synchrophasor measurements with GPS time stamp from wide area can provide dynamic view of power grid that enables supervision, and protection of power network and allow the operator to take necessary control/remedial measures in the new regime of grid operations. Construction of phasor measurement unit (PMU) that provide synchrophasors for the assessment of system state is widely accepted as an essential component for the successful execution of wide area monitoring system (WAMS) applications. Commercial PMUs comes with many constraints such as cost, proprietary hardware designs and software. All these constraints have limited the deployment of PMUs at high voltage transmission systems alone. This paper addresses the issues by developing a cost-effective PMU with open-source hardware, which can be easily modified as per the requirements of the applications. The proposed device is tested with IEEE standards.

In today’s world, a Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is a crucial component of our power network for managing, controlling, and monitoring. PMU can provide synchronized voltage current, and frequency measurements in real time. We can't put a PMU in every bus in the electrical grid because it's not viable from a productivity and economic standpoint, and it's also not practical for handling huge data. As a result, it's critical to reduce the amount of PMU in the power network while also increasing the power network's observability. The optimal PMU placement problem is solved using a variety of methodologies. The paper's main goal is to provide a brief overview of synchrophasor technology, phasor measurement units (PMU), and optimal PMU placement in order to reduce the number of PMUs in the system while maintaining complete observability and application in today's power systems.

Today, microgrids in distribution networks are in dire need of improvement to cope with economic challenges, human losses, and equipment placement issues. Today, there is the issue of scattered resources in distribution systems, which has created many problems in the areas of environment, economy, and human and animal losses. The most important challenge in this section is the existence of voltage and frequency fluctuations during the occurrence of possible events such as severe load changes or errors in distribution networks. Having such a big problem can call a distribution network into question and destroy it. Therefore, it is necessary to provide an optimal method that can meet and cover these challenges. For this purpose, the present research deals with the problem of establishing and placing a multifunctional phasor measurement unit to improve the parallel state estimation in distribution networks, which offers a control approach. This approach determines the time of occurrence of internal and external disturbances after using the phasor unit. The approach of this research is to use a neural-fuzzy method because there is uncertainty in the distribution network due to the mentioned challenges, and training in the system is needed to accurately deploy and place possible errors. Do not occur. When setting up and placing the phasor measuring unit, the most important issue is the proper distribution of the load in the distribution network. The simulation results in the MATLAB / Simulink environment show the improvement of the results according to the proposed approach. Keywords: Distribution Network, Neural-Fuzzy Network, Optimal Load Distribution, Parallel State Estimation, Phasor Measurement Unit.
