Abstract Let $G$ be a finite group with cyclic Sylow $p$ -subgroups, and let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p$ . Then $H^{*}(BG;k)$ and $H_*(\Omega BG{{}^{{}^{\wedge }}_p};k)$ are $A_\infty$ algebras whose structure we determine up to quasi-isomorphism.

AbstractWe give a construction of the universal enveloping $$A_\infty $$ A ∞ algebra of a given $$L_\infty $$ L ∞ algebra, alternative to the already existing versions. As applications, we derive a higher homotopy algebras version of the classical Milnor-Moore theorem. This proposes a new $$A_\infty $$ A ∞ model for simply connected rational homotopy types, and uncovers a relationship between the higher order rational Whitehead products in homotopy groups and the Pontryagin-Massey products in the rational loop space homology algebra.

Abstract Using the combinatorics of the underlying simplicial complex K, we give various upper and lower bounds for the Lusternik–Schnirelmann (LS) category of moment-angle complexes 𝒵 K {\mathcal{Z}_{K}} . We describe families of simplicial complexes and combinatorial operations which allow for a systematic description of the LS-category. In particular, we characterize the LS-category of moment-angle complexes 𝒵 K {\mathcal{Z}_{K}} over triangulated d-manifolds K for d ≤ 2 {d\leq 2} , as well as higher-dimensional spheres built up via connected sum, join, and vertex doubling operations. We show that the LS-category closely relates to vanishing of Massey products in H * ⁢ ( 𝒵 K ) {H^{*}(\mathcal{Z}_{K})} , and through this connection we describe first structural properties of Massey products in moment-angle manifolds. Some of the further applications include calculations of the LS-category and the description of conditions for vanishing of Massey products for moment-angle manifolds over fullerenes, Pogorelov polytopes and k-neighborly complexes, which double as important examples of hyperbolic manifolds.

Abstract Let 𝑝 be a prime. We produce two new families of pro-𝑝 groups which are not realizable as absolute Galois groups of fields. To prove this, we use the 1-smoothness property of absolute Galois pro-𝑝 groups. Moreover, we show in these families, one has several pro-𝑝 groups which may not be ruled out as absolute Galois groups employing the quadraticity of Galois cohomology (a consequence of the norm residue theorem), or the vanishing of Massey products in Galois cohomology.

In this survey, we discuss two research areas related to Massey’s higher operations. The first direction is connected with the cohomology of Lie algebras and the theory of representations. The second main theme is at the intersection of toric topology, homotopy theory of polyhedral products, and the homology theory of local rings, Stanley–Reisner rings of simplicial complexes.

In this paper we illustrate a tight interplay between homotopy theory and combinatorics within toric topology by explicitly calculating homotopy and combinatorial invariants of toric objects associated with the dodecahedron. In particular, we calculate the cohomology ring of the (complex and real) moment-angle manifolds over the dodecahedron, and of a certain quasitoric manifold and of a related small cover. We finish by studying Massey products in the cohomology ring of moment-angle manifolds over the dodecahedron and how the existence of nontrivial Massey products influences the behaviour of the Poincar? series of the corresponding Pontryagin algebra.
