Abstract We prove that the asymptotics of ergodic integrals along an invariant foliation of a toral Anosov diffeomorphism, or of a pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphism on a compact orientable surface of higher genus, is determined (up to a logarithmic error) by the action of the diffeomorphism on the cohomology of the surface. As a consequence of our argument and of the results of Giulietti and Liverani [Parabolic dynamics and anisotropic Banach spaces. J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS)21(9) (2019), 2793–2858] on horospherical averages, toral Anosov diffeomorphisms have no Ruelle resonances in the open interval $(1, e^{h_{\mathrm {top}}})$ .

We study integrability and bifurcations of a three-dimensional circuit differential system. The emerging of periodic solutions under Hopf bifurcation and zero-Hopf bifurcation is investigated using the center manifolds and the averaging theory. The zero-Hopf equilibrium is non-isolated and lies on a line filled in with equilibria. A Lyapunov function is found and the global stability of the origin is proven in the case when it is a simple and locally asymptotically stable equilibrium. We also study the integrability of the model and the foliations of the phase space by invariant surfaces. It is shown that in an invariant foliation at most two limit cycles can bifurcate from a weak focus.

Abstract The paper introduces a technique that decomposes the dynamics of a nonlinear system about an equilibrium into low-order components, which then can be used to reconstruct the full dynamics. This is a nonlinear analogue of linear modal analysis. The dynamics is decomposed using Invariant Spectral Foliation (ISF), which is defined as the smoothest invariant foliation about an equilibrium and hence unique under general conditions. The conjugate dynamics of an ISF can be used as a reduced order model. An ISF can be fitted to vibration data without carrying out a model identification first. The theory is illustrated on a analytic example and on free-vibration data of a clamped-clamped beam.

In the paper an estimation of the minimal number of elements of Markov partition for generalized pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism of closed non necessary orientable surface is given. It is formulated in terms of characteristic of invariant foliation of generalized pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism.

In the context of the Franks–Misiurewicz conjecture, we study homeomorphisms of the two-torus semiconjugate to an irrational rotation of the circle. As a special case, this conjecture asserts uniqueness of the rotation vector in this class of systems. We first characterize these maps by the existence of an invariant ‘foliation’ by essential annular continua (essential subcontinua of the torus whose complement is an open annulus) which are permuted with irrational combinatorics. This result places the considered class close to skew products over irrational rotations. Generalizing a well-known result of Herman on forced circle homeomorphisms, we provide a criterion, in terms of topological properties of the annular continua, for the uniqueness of the rotation vector. As a byproduct, we obtain a simple proof for the uniqueness of the rotation vector on decomposable invariant annular continua with empty interior. In addition, we collect a number of observations on the topology and rotation intervals of invariant annular continua with empty interior.

In this paper, we study the existence of an invariant foliation for a class of stochastic partial differential equations with a multiplicative white noise. This invariant foliation is used to trace the long term behavior of all solutions of these equations.
