We consider a class GSD(M3) of gradient-like diffeomorphisms with surface dynamics given on closed oriented manifold M3 of dimension three. Earlier it was proved that manifolds admitting such diffeomorphisms are mapping tori under closed orientable surface of genus g, and the number of non-compact heteroclinic curves of such diffeomorphisms is not less than 12g. In this paper, we determine a class of diffeomorphisms GSDR(M3)⊂GSD(M3) that have the minimum number of heteroclinic curves for a given number of periodic points, and prove that the supporting manifold of such diffeomorphisms is a Seifert manifold. The separatrices of periodic points of diffeomorphisms from the class GSDR(M3) have regular asymptotic behavior, in particular, their closures are locally flat. We provide sufficient conditions (independent on dynamics) for mapping torus to be Seifert. At the same time, the paper establishes that for any fixed g geq1, fixed number of periodic points, and any integer n≥12g, there exists a manifold M3 and a diffeomorphism f∈GSD(M3) having exactly n non-compact heteroclinic curves.

AbstractLet $$f:M\rightarrow M$$ f : M → M be a self-map of a compact manifold and $$n\in {\mathbb {N}}$$ n ∈ N . In general, the least number of n-periodic points in the smooth homotopy class of f may be much bigger than in the continuous homotopy class. For a class of spaces, including compact Lie groups, a necessary condition for the equality of the above two numbers, for each iteration $$f^n$$ f n , appears. Here we give the explicit form of the graph of orbits of Reidemeister classes $$\mathcal {GOR}(f^*)$$ GOR ( f ∗ ) for self-maps of projective unitary group PSU(2) and of $$PSU(2)\times PSU(2)$$ P S U ( 2 ) × P S U ( 2 ) satisfying the necessary condition. The structure of the graphs implies that for self-maps of the above spaces the necessary condition is also sufficient for the smooth minimal realization of n-periodic points for all iterations.

The world of generalized number systems contains many challenging areas. Computer experiments often support the theoretical research. In this paper we introduce a toolset that helps to analyze some properties of lattice based number expansions. The toolset is able to (1) analyze the expansions, (2) decide the number system property, (3) classify and visualize the periodic points. The toolset is implemented in Python, published alongside with a database that stores plenty of special expansions, and is able to store the custom properties like signature, operator eigenvalues, etc. Researchers can connect to the server and request/upload data, or perform experiments on them. We present an introductory usage of the toolset and detail some results that has been observed by the toolset. The toolset can be downloaded from http://numsys.info domain.

Abstract The Julia set of the exponential family $E_{\kappa }:z\mapsto \kappa e^z$ , $\kappa>0$ was shown to be the entire complex plane when $\kappa>1/e$ essentially by Misiurewicz. Later, Devaney and Krych showed that for $0<\kappa \leq 1/e$ the Julia set is an uncountable union of pairwise disjoint simple curves tending to infinity. Bergweiler generalized the result of Devaney and Krych for a three-dimensional analogue of the exponential map called the Zorich map. We show that the Julia set of certain Zorich maps with symmetry is the whole of $\mathbb {R}^3$ , generalizing Misiurewicz’s result. Moreover, we show that the periodic points of the Zorich map are dense in $\mathbb {R}^3$ and that its escaping set is connected, generalizing a result of Rempe. We also generalize a theorem of Ghys, Sullivan and Goldberg on the measurable dynamics of the exponential.

Let P : C → C P: \mathbb {C} \to \mathbb {C} be a polynomial map with disconnected filled Julia set K P K_P and let z 0 z_0 be a repelling or parabolic periodic point of P P . We show that if the connected component of K P K_P containing z 0 z_0 is non-degenerate, then z 0 z_0 is the landing point of at least one smooth external ray. The statement is optimal in the sense that all but one cycle of rays landing at z 0 z_0 may be broken.
