Abstract We demonstrate nearly spherical nanoparticles of tungsten disulfide (WS2) produced by femtosecond pulsed laser ablation of bulk target in deionized water. Structural and optical analysis reveals that produced nanospheres preserve the crystalline structure, high refractive index and support strong excitons and Mie resonances in the spectral range 400-700 nm, resulting in enhanced photothermal response probed by Raman spectroscopy.

Abstract In the present work zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized on silicon wafer by femtosecond pulsed ablation processing of ZnS bulk target using an electrostatic field in argon gas atmosphere. The morphology, size distribution and structural characterization of obtained ZnS NPs were investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Dominant size of obtained NPs lies in the range 10-20 nm, NPs are in spherical shape, particles of other shape and agglomerates of particles are absent. XRD investigation of synthesized NPs identified hexagonal wurtzite structure. There is a structural phase transition from the sphalerite ZnS bulk (target) structure to the structural phase of wurtzite (obtained NPs).The optical characterization of synthesized by laser ablation ZnS NPs was carried out using a photoluminescence (PL) measurement. ZnS NPs show a strong broad PL emission spectra covering the entire visible electromagnetic spectra region (range from 380 to 800 nm) centered at 513.7 nm.

AbstractThe irradiation of thin films by intensive subpicosecond laser pulses with nanosecond prepulse is accompanied by a number of various physical processes. The laser beam transmissions through the film as well as the re-emission flux on both sides of the film plasma have been evaluated by simulation for Al and CH2 materials. It has been demonstrated that the thickness of the film can be chosen to cut off the long nanosecond prepulse whereas the main pulse is transmitted through the plasma. Thus, thin films can be useful for the laser contrast improvement in experiments with different targets.Nevertheless, the laser energy transformation into the soft X-ray radiation on the back side of the shielding film plasma can reach up to 7% of the incident intensity for the Al film and result in strong preheating of the target. At the same time the re-emission flux produced by a CH2 film is an order lower than that in the case of Al film. The shielding of an Ag bulk target by Al and CH2 films is simulated and discussed.
