Let $b_{\ell;3}(n)$ denote the number of $\ell$-regular partitions of $n$ in 3 colours. In this paper, we find some general generating functions and new infinite families of congruences modulo arbitrary powers of $3$ when $\ell\in\{9,27\}$. For instance, for positive integers $n$ and $k$, we have\begin{align*}b_{9;3}\left(3^k\cdot n+3^k-1\right)&\equiv0~\left(\textup{mod}~3^{2k}\right),\\b_{27;3}\left(3^{2k+3}\cdot n+\dfrac{3^{2k+4}-13}{4}\right)&\equiv0~\left(\textup{mod}~3^{2k+5}\right).\end{align*}

Abstract Let $p_{\{3, 3\}}(n)$ denote the number of $3$ -regular partitions in three colours. Da Silva and Sellers [‘Arithmetic properties of 3-regular partitions in three colours’, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc.104(3) (2021), 415–423] conjectured four Ramanujan-like congruences modulo $5$ satisfied by $p_{\{3, 3\}}(n)$ . We confirm these conjectural congruences using the theory of modular forms.

AbstractIn 2016 Bessenrodt–Ono discovered an inequality addressing additive and multiplicative properties of the partition function. Generalizations by several authors have been given; on partitions with rank in a given residue class by Hou–Jagadeesan and Males, on k-regular partitions by Beckwith–Bessenrodt, on k-colored partitions by Chern–Fu–Tang, and Heim–Neuhauser on their polynomization, and Dawsey–Masri on the Andrews spt-function. The proofs depend on non-trivial asymptotic formulas related to the circle method on one side, or a sophisticated combinatorial proof invented by Alanazi–Gagola–Munagi. We offer in this paper a new proof of the Bessenrodt–Ono inequality, which is built on a well-known recursion formula for partition numbers. We extend the proof to the result by Chern–Fu–Tang and its polynomization. Finally, we also obtain a new result.

Association Schemes and coherent configurations (and the related Bose-Mesner algebra and coherent algebras) are well known in combinatorics with many applications. In the 1990s, Mesner and Bhattacharya introduced a three-dimensional generalisation of association schemes which they called an {\em association scheme on triples} (AST) and constructed examples of several families of ASTs. Many of their examples used 2-transitive permutation groups: the non-trivial ternary relations of the ASTs were sets of ordered triples of pairwise distinct points of the underlying set left invariant by the group; and the given permutation group was a subgroup of automorphisms of the AST. In this paper, we consider ASTs that do not necessarily admit 2-transitive groups as automorphism groups but instead a transitive cyclic subgroup of the symmetric group acts as automorphisms. Such ASTs are called {\em circulant} ASTs and the corresponding ternary relations are called {\em circulant relations}. We give a complete characterisation of circulant ASTs in terms of AST-regular partitions of the underlying set. We also show that a special type of circulant, that we call a {\em thin circulant}, plays a key role in describing the structure of circulant ASTs. We outline several open questions.

Abstract Gireesh and Mahadeva Naika [‘On 3-regular partitions in 3-colors’, Indian J. Pure Appl. Math.50 (2019), 137–148] proved an infinite family of congruences modulo powers of 3 for the function $p_{\{3,3\}}(n)$ , the number of 3-regular partitions in three colours. In this paper, using elementary generating function manipulations and classical techniques, we significantly extend the list of proven arithmetic properties satisfied by $p_{\{3,3\}}(n).$
