The Society for Old Testament Study: 1917–2017 In writing this chapter I have made extensive use of the material available in the Society’s archive housed in the library of Bangor University, and I wish to express my thanks to the archivist, Mrs Elen Wyn Simpson, for her patience and assistance in locating the relevant material. All quotations in this chapter, unless otherwise stated, are from the Minutes of the Society’s General Committee meetings or from the Minutes of its Business Meetings or from the annual Bulletin sent out to members. I have profited greatly by the ‘Short Histories’ of the Society, written by G. Henton Davies (1950), D.R. Ap-Thomas (1967) and John Rogerson (1992), and the brief account of the Society’s history written by George W. Anderson and published in Vetus Testamentum (vol. 17 [1967], pp. 123–26 ) to mark the Jubilee of the Society’s foundation.
