GLORIA DEI AS A KEY TO UNDERSTAND CALVIN'S DOCTRINE OF PREDESTINATION

This article analyses the doctrine of predestination in Calvin's thought and offers an alternative to understand it from the perspective of the glory of God. With historical and systematic theological argumentations, the writer offers a key thought for understanding the complexity of Calvin's doctrine of predestination. The idea of the glory of God can serve as a key to understand the doctrine.?

KREDIBILITAS & KONTRIBUSI INJIL KEEMPAT TERHADAP STUDI YESUS SEJARAH

Para ahli Yesus Sejarah secara umum hanya menerima injil Sinoptik dan menolak kredibilitas Injil Keempat menjadi sumber mereka. Hal ini mengakibatkan munculnya presentasi yang cacat akan gambaran Yesus Sejarah dalam setiap fase perkembangannya. Pencarian ketiga dari Yesus Sejarah, misalnya seperti yang dikerjakan oleh E. P. Sanders, berusaha mengoreksi gambaran yang cacat ini dari pencarian-pencarian sebelumnya. Tapi upayanya kembali gagal melampaui palang representasi Yesus Sejarah yang sejati disebabkan pandangannya yang skeptis terhadap injil keempat. Di artikel ini, bukti-bukti ekstrinsik dan intrinsik dipaparkan untuk menunjukkan kredibilitas akan Injil Keempat. Lalu, setelah menunjukkan kekurangan dari pencarian-pencarian yang sebelumnya, beberapa catatan akan kontribusi positif diberikan melalui Injil keempat sehingga Yesus Sejarah yang sejati dapat dimunculkan.

PENDASARAN TEOLOGIS BAGI PEMIKIRAN POLITIK JOHN CALVIN

Sebagai seorang teolog, John Calvin mendasarkan pemikiran politiknya atas doktrin-doktrin teologis. Dalam kajian terhadap pemikiran politiknya, paling tidak dalam bagian pemerintahan aristokratis-demokratis, terlihat Calvin mengasumsikan sejumlah doktrin penting yakni doktrin Alkitab, doktrin kedaulatan Allah dan doktrin dosa. Ketiga doktrin ini memberi pengaruh paling tidak, bagi eksistensi pemerintahan, pentingnya hukum, dan kepemimpinan plural.

PANDANGAN ESKATOLOGI INJIL MATIUS 27:51-54

Matius 27:51-54 memberitahukan kepada kita beberapa peristiwa luar biasa yang terjadi ketika Yesus mati di atas kayu salib. Beberapa teolog mengatakan bahwa kita tidak dapat melihat peristiwa- peristiwa yang dicatat di dalam perikop tersebut benar-benar terjadi secara literal melainkan hanya sebagai konsep teologis yang dinyatakan di dalam peristiwa. Mereka mengatakan karena Matius sebenarnya telah dipengaruhi oleh budaya Helenistik yang kemudian menggunakan perangkat puisi Helenistik untuk menekankan bahwa Raja yang besar telah mati. Tetapi tentu saja pengertian semacam ini akan sangat menjadi ancaman bagi iman Kristen, khususnya mengenai kematian dan kebangkitan Tuhan Yesus Kristus sebagai peristiwa yang terjadi secara literal. Oleh karena itu, sangat penting bagi kita untuk mengerti bagian tersebut sebagai peristiwa yang terjadi secara literal. Kemudian kita akan melihat signifikansi kuasa kematian Tuhan Yesus Kristus yang bahkan memicu kebangkitan dari para orang kudus dan disisi lain bagian ini menjadi fitur baru yang dibawa oleh Matius ke dalam tradisi Sinoptik.

THE APOSTOLIC DECREE AND OUR MEAT MENU: READING ACTS 15 IN REDEMPTIVE- HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

The decision of the Jerusalem Council concerning Gentile believers - that they had to abstain, among other things, from meat with blood still in it and from sexual immorality - was officially recorded in order to be obeyed in the early Christian communities (Acts 15). It is echoed in Paul's letters, because this apostolic instruction was intended for non-Jewish believers like us. The prescription from Jerusalem was by no means incidental, it is rooted in basic principles of created life, and it was generally observed during the first centuries. Yet, most Christians today no longer feelbound bythis biblical rule and have no problem with eating blood pudding or rare steak. The purpose of this article is to explain why, in the course of time, the Apostolic Decree was considered to have become obsolete. In a church with an increasing number of Gentile Christians, the redemptive-historical necessity of the decree had ceased to exist.

TEOLOGI PUBLIK STANLEY HAUERWAS DAN PENERAPANNYA DALAM KONTEKS DI INDONESIA

Orang Kristen tidak dapat melarikan diri dari masyarakat sehingga teologi publik dibutuhkan oleh orang Kristen untuk berkontribusi kepada masyarakat. Pada satu aspek, teologi publik harus relevan dengan masyarakat tetapi di aspek yang lain harus dapat menunjukkan identitasnya. Terdapat banyak jenis teologi publik dan salah satunya diusulkan oleh Stanley Hauerwas. Hauerwas mengajukan sebuah model teologi publik yang berdasarkan komunitas dan narasi sehingga kontribusi orang Kristen tidak kehilangan identitasnya demi mendapatkan relevansi publik. Teologi publik Hauerwas menekankan peran gereja dalam teologi pubik. Sekalipun model ini didasarkan pada konteks Amerika Serikat tetapi dapat memberikan masukan yang bermanfaat dalam berteologi publik di Indonesia.

This paper discusses the challenges of Christian principles to adapt biblical message to today. It start with the growing trend toward individualism, and privatization of religion, violence and finally persecution. I will analyze the apologetics method in the famous speech given by the apostle Paul on Mars Hill, recorded in Acts 17:16-34. Then, finally making proposals on how Paul's approach to be used in the practice of today's Christian apologetics based on the challenges given above. The relevance of emotions in Christian worship have become an important issue particularly when polemic on this topic emerges between Reformed and Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians. In this paper, I strive to study and analyze the emotions both in history and in recent study to find out the concept and meaning of that term in the hope that this research contributes to both Reformed and Pentecostal/Charismatic toward a better worship in the future. I start with presenting the polemic between Reformed and Pentecostal/Charismatic, then describing the concept and meaning of the emotions in history and in recent research, and finally, making proposals on how emotions to be used in Christian worship. CHILDLIKE REVERENCE AND TRUST: CALVIN AND THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM ON PRAYER

Prayer is a central theme in both Calvin's Institutes and the Heidelberg Catechism, although it is a neglected theme in present-day dogmatics. The present article compares Calvin's and the Heidelberg Catechism's stance on prayer in the context of the renewal of prayer as an effect of the Reformation of the 16th century. Both emphasise the experiential character of prayer and the importance of God's promise. The discussion of 'Amen' serves as a grand finale to the Heidelberg Catechism.
