Most of the malignant neoplasms of the head and neck are represented by squamous cell carcinoma. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck is applied for primary staging, treatment planning, treatment response assessment evaluation and progression detection. The article presents a literature review on the use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients, and major trends of other radiopharmaceuticals usage in this nosology.
