Firstly in this paper,an antipodal Vivaldi antenna is designed.The bandwidth is from 6GHz to 18GHz. The simulated results show good electric performance and the voltage standing wave ratio is less than 2 in the whole bandwidth.Secondly depending on this unit,this paper designs two kinds of arrays and estimates their radiation characteristics,respectively.The one array is a 1×8 array and the another array is a X-cross structure array with four elements.

The characteristics of a novel antipodal Vivaldi antenna array mounted on a dielectric cone are presented. By employing antipodal Vivaldi antenna element, the antenna array shows ultrawide bandwidth and end-fire radiation characteristics. Our simulations show that the cone curvature has an obvious influence on the performance of the conformal antenna, in terms of both the bandwidth and the radiation patterns. The thickness and permittivity of the dielectric cone have an effect on the bandwidth of the conformal antenna. Measurement results of both single antenna and conformal antenna array show a good agreement with the simulated results. The measured conformal antenna can achieve a −10 dBS11with bandwidth of 2.2–12 GHz and demonstrate a typical end-fire radiation beam. These findings provide useful guidelines and insights for the design of wideband end-fire antennas mounted on a dielectric cone.

Abstract Dual mode antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) with narrowband to wideband switching is proposed in this work. The antenna has the footprint of 60 mm x 40 mm x 1.6 mm and FR-4 substrate used for fabrication. The antenna exhibits 8.3 GHz bandwidth in wideband mode with a peak gain of 6.9 dBi and 1.6 GHz bandwidth in narrowband mode with a peak gain of 7 dBi. The simulations are performed using CST full wave simulator and the results are compared with the reference antenna of the same dimensions. PIN diodes are implemented to achieve the frequency switching. The working principle of the antenna is explained through simulation and verified through measurements.
