This paper exhibites species composition and distribution of marine seaweed at 10 sites of Co To and Thanh Lan islands in May 2019. The studies record 76 species of marine algae in the area, belonging to four divisions: Cyanophytes, Rhodophytes, Ochrophytes and Chlorophytes. Among them, five species are classified into Cyanophytes (comprising 6.6% of total species); thirty-four species into Rhodophytes (44.7%); twenty-one species into Ochrophytes/Phaeophytes (27.6%) and sixteen species into Chlorophytes (21.1%). The species composition of marine seaweeds in Co To and Thanh Lan shows significant differences as follows: 22 species (sites number 4 and 10) to 58 species (site number 2) and the average value is 38.7 species per site. Sørensen similarity coefficient fluctuates from 0.33 (sites number 5 and 10) to 0.84 (sites number 1 and 3) and the average value is 0.53. The current investigations show that four species of twenty-one species are collected in the littoral zone and forty-two species in the sub-littoral zone (in which there are thirteen species distributed in both littoral zone and sub-littoral zone). The algal flora in Co To and Thanh Lan is characterized by subtropics.

Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the taxonomic aspects and geographical distribution of the periphytic desmids from two different substrates in the littoral zone of an urban artificial lake. Methods Samples of epiphytic and epilithic desmids were collected by grass and rock scraping, respectively, in two stations in the Cascavel municipal lake, Paraná, during April 2015, and March 2016 and 2017. In the laboratory, the taxa obtained from the samples were photographed and their morphometric characteristics recorded. The species composition of the desmid was characterized, and the frequency of occurrence as well as the geographic distribution of each taxon in the Paraná State were recorded. Results We identified 35 taxa, distributed in 10 genera. The most representative were Closterium Nitzsch ex Ralfs and Cosmarium Corda ex Ralfs. A high occurrence of sporadic taxa (60%) was observed and among the recorded taxa, the most frequent were Cosmarium pseudoconnatum Nordstedt var. pseudoconnatum and Desmidium grevillei (Kützing ex Ralfs) De Bary. Nine taxa were exclusive to the epilithic substrate and only Netrium digitus (Ralfs) Itzigsohn & Rothe var. digitus was exclusive to the epiphytic substrate, while the remaining 25 taxa occurred in both substrates. Seven taxa are new records for the Paraná State. Conclusion Although our results are of qualitative nature, they provide baseline data on the biogeographic distribution of taxa, which are crucial for future taxonomic and ecological studies that might contribute to the preservation of the biodiversity.

AbstractEmerging Trichoptera were collected from the littoral zone of a newly-created reservoir, Southern Indian Lake, Manitoba, from 1977 to 1981. The relationship between caddisfly emergence and lake shoreline type, depth of sampling, and shoreline erosion rate was studied. Twenty-five species of Trichoptera were collected; six species of Polycentropodidae comprised almost 75% of the total number of individuals. Abundance and richness of Trichoptera were correlated with shoreline stability, with higher abundance and richness being found at more stable (i.e. lower erosion) shorelines. Highest numbers of Trichoptera emerged in 1981, 5 years after impoundment. Maximum abundance and richness of Trichoptera was found at 3.5 m depth, which is also the depth at which maximum deposition of organic matter occurred. Agrypnia straminea Hagen, a case-maker, dominated the trichopteran fauna at the marsh shoreline; species of net-spinning Polycentropodidae dominated at the clay shorelines. Patterns of species composition and abundance in 1982 artificial substrate collections were similar to those found in 1977–1981 emergence trap collections. Interspecific differences in Neureclipsis capture nets may explain the greater abundance of N. validus (Walker) than N. bimaculatus (L.) at a high erosion shoreline.
