AbstractWe consider a Dirichlet type problem for a nonlinear, nonlocal equation driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian, whose reaction combines a sublinear term depending on a positive parameter and an asymmetric perturbation (superlinear at positive infinity, at most linear at negative infinity). By means of critical point theory and Morse theory, we prove that, for small enough values of the parameter, such problem admits at least four nontrivial solutions: two positive, one negative, and one nodal. As a tool, we prove a Brezis-Oswald type comparison result.

AbstractWe consider nonlinear periodic problems driven by the scalar p-Laplacian with a Carathéodory reaction term. Under conditions which permit resonance at infinity with respect to any eigenvalue, we show that the problem has a nontrivial smooth solution. Our approach combines variational techniques based on critical point theory with Morse theory.

In this paper, we use the genus properties in critical point theory to prove the existence of infinitely many solutions for fractional [Formula: see text]-Laplacian equations of Schrödinger-Kirchhoff type.

Let Ω be a bounded domain in RNwith smooth boundary ∂Ω. In this paper, the following Dirichlet problem for N-Laplacian equations (N > 1) are considered: [Formula: see text] We assume that the nonlinearity f(x, t) is sub-exponential growth. In fact, we will prove the mapping f(x, ⋅): LA(Ω) ↦ LÃ(Ω) is continuous, where LA(Ω) and LÃ(Ω) are Orlicz spaces. Applying this result, the compactness conditions would be obtained. Hence, we may use Morse theory to obtain existence of nontrivial solutions for problem (N).

AbstractIn this paper, we use the critical point theory for convex, lower semicontinuous perturbations of{C^{1}}-functionals to obtain the existence of multiple nontrivial solutions for one parameter potential systems involving the operator{u\mapsto\operatorname{div}(\frac{\nabla u}{\sqrt{1-|\nabla u|^{2}}})}. The solvability of a general non-potential system is also established.

We consider quasilinear strongly resonant problems with discontinuous right-hand side. To develop an existence theory we pass to a multivalued problem by, roughly speaking, filling in the gaps at the discontinuity points. We prove the existence of at least three nontrivial solutions. Our approach uses the nonsmooth critical point theory for locally Lipschitz functionals due to Chang (1981) and a generalized version of the Ekeland variational principle. At the end of the paper we show that the nonsmooth Palais-Smale (PS)-condition implies the coercivity of the functional, extending this way a well-known result of the “smooth” case.

We employ Nehari manifold methods and critical point theory to study the existence of nontrivial homoclinic solutions of discretep-Laplacian equations with a coercive weight function and superlinear nonlinearity. Without assuming the classical Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition and without any periodicity assumptions, we prove the existence and multiplicity results of the equations.

AbstractIn this paper, we consider nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the p-Laplacian differential operator. Using variational methods based on the critical point theory and truncation techniques, we prove the existence of at least three nontrivial smooth solutions. The hypotheses on the nonlinearity incorporate in our framework of analysis both coercive and noncoercive problems. For the semilinear problem (p = 2), using Morse theory, we show the existence of four nontrivial smooth solutions.
