Abstract We present petrographic and microthermometric evidence for precipitation of Au-Ag-Te–rich melt directly from hydrothermal fluids and subsequent entrapment as primary melt inclusions within pyrite from quartz veins of the Xiaoqinling lode gold district, southern margin of the North China craton. We propose the formation of Au-Ag-Te–rich melt through adsorption-reduction mechanisms on pyrite and subsequent growth of the melt nuclei via direct scavenging of metals from fluids. Because neither initial formation nor later growth of the melt require saturation of the ore fluid with respect to the constituent metals, this mechanism offers a new understanding of the enrichment of low-abundance ore components, such as gold. Our model may thus partly explain the discrepancy between the high gold solubilities reported from experimental studies and the much lower gold concentrations usually measured in natural fluids. This study also implies that Au-Ag-Te–rich melt has probably gone unrecognized in other lode gold deposits in which Au-Ag tellurides are present.

By Classical Chinese (CC) I mean the language of the texts such as the Tzuoo Juann, the Mencius, the Shyuntzyy and others that we believe to have been written in Northern and Central China during the period 500 - 200 B.C.In this article I am going to take up the banner of the late George Kennedy and, at the risk of appearing somewhat peevish, try to make the case that CC textual analysis needs to be done with much greater rigor than it generally is. Kennedy said in 1953,“Sinologists need to recognize that languages are not private cathedrals of mystery adapted for special revelations and pontifical decrees. The materials of language are as wide open as the rocks and the trees, and people have been looking at them for a long time with varying reactions. From the animistic recognition of each tree or rock as the special abode of a particular spirit we have moved to a classification of the features common to all trees, and to a scientific statement of the features that make a tree different from a rock. There has been a progressive increase in our perceptiveness towards these things, and constant improvement in our methods of analysis and description.” (George A. The Qinling–Dabie orogen in central China is one of the major orogenic belts in East Asia. In the eastern Dabie–Sulu region, mafic lamprophyres show the enriched signatures of old sub-continental lithospheric mantle. However, little is known about the mafic igneous rocks and their lithospheric mantle sources in the western Qinling Range. New 40Ar–39Ar age dating, major- and trace-element data, and isotopic analyses of Qinling lamprophyres reveal their differences from the Dabie Sulu lamprophyres. Biotite 40Ar–39Ar dating yielded a plateau age of 219±2 Ma, identical to the ages of rapakivi-textured granitoids in the area. The association of lamprophyre dykes and rapakivi-textured granitoids indicates that the Qinling region was a post-collisional setting at c. 220 Ma. The Qinling lamprophyres are calc-alkaline, and rich in large ion lithophile elements (e.g. Ba, K), but depleted in Nb, Ta and Ti. They show highly fractionated REE patterns with LaN>100 and HREE <10 times chondrite abundances. εNd (219 Ma) values range from −0.5 to −3.3 and initial Sr isotope values from 0.7036 to 0.7058. These features suggest generation of the lamprophyre by partial melting of a metasomatized, garnet peridotite mantle source. The Qinling lamprophyres are distinct from the Dabie–Sulu lamprophyres in emplacement age (c. 135 Ma for Dabie–Sulu) and isotopic composition, suggesting that the nature of the lithospheric mantle and geodynamic evolution of the Qinling region contrasts with that of the Dabie–Sulu region.

Abstract he present work combines data-driven based logistic function with prediction-area plot for delineating target areas of orogenic gold deposits in eastern margin of Qinling metallogenic belt, central China. Firstly, the values of geological and geochemical information layer were transformed into a series of fuzzy numbers with a range of 0-1 through a data-driven based logistic function on the basis of mineralization theory of the orogenic gold deposits. Secondly, the prediction-area(P-A) plot was performed on the above evidence layers and their corresponding fuzzy overlay layers to pick out a proper prediction scheme for mineral prospectivity mapping(MPM) based on the known gold occurrences. What’s more, to further prove the advantages of this method, we also used a knowledge-driven approach for comparison purpose. Finally, with the concentration-area(C-A) fractal model, the fractal thresholds were determined and a mineral prospecting map was generated. The result, five of the six known gold deposits are located in high and moderate potential areas (accounts for 18.6 % of the study area), one in low potential area (accounts for 38.4 % of the study area) and none in weak potential area (accounts for 43 % of the study area), confirmed the joint application of data-driven based logistic function and prediction-area plot a simple, effective and low-cost method for mineral prospectivity mapping, which can be a guidance for further work in the research area.
