J. Lambek and G. Michler [3] have initiated the study of a ring of quotients RP associated with a two-sided prime ideal P in a right noetherian ring R. The ring RP is the quotient ring (in the sense of [1]) associated with the hereditary torsion class τ consisting of all right R-modules M for which HomR(M, ER(R/P)) = 0, where ER(X) is the injective hull of the R-module X.In the present paper, we shall study further the properties of the ring RP. The main results are Theorems 4.3 and 4.6. Theorem 4.3 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the torsion class associated with P to have property (T), as well as some properties of RP when these conditions are indeed satisfied, while Theorem 4.6 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for R to satisfy the right Ore condition with respect to (P).

Let K be a commutative ring with unity, R a non-commutative prime K-algebra with center Z(R), U the Utumi quotient ring of R, C=Z(U) the extended centroid of R, I a non-zero two-sided ideal of R, H and G non-zero generalized derivations of R. Suppose that f(x1,…,xn) is a non-central multilinear polynomial over K such that H(f(X))f(X)-f(X)G(f(X))=0 for all X=(x1,…,xn)∈ In. Then one of the following holds: (1) There exists a ∈ U such that H(x)=xa and G(x)=ax for all x ∈ R. (2) f(x1,…,xn)2 is central valued on R and there exist a, b ∈ U such that H(x)=ax+xb and G(x)=bx+xa for all x ∈ R. (3) char (R)=2 and R satisfies s4, the standard identity of degree 4.

Let R be a commutative ring with non-zero identity and let K be the total quotient ring of R. We call R a G-ring if K is finitely generated as a ring over R. This generalizes Kaplansky′s definition of G-domain [5].Let Z(R) be the set of zero divisors in R. Following [7] elements of R—Z(R) and ideals of R containing at least one such element are called regular. Artin-Tate's characterization of Noetherian G-domains [1, Theorem 4] carries over with a slight adjustment to characterize a Noetherian G-ring as being semi-local in which every regular prime ideal has rank one.

Let G be a polycyclic-by-finite group and let K[G] denote its group algebra over the field K. In this paper we discuss localization in K[G] and in particular we prove that every faithful completely prime ideal is localizable. Furthermore, using a sequence of localizations, we show that, for G polyinfinite cyclic, the classical right quotient ring (K[G]) is in fact a universal field of fractions for K[G]. Finally we offer an example of a domain K[G] which does not have a universal field of fractions.

Let f(x1,…,xn) be a noncentral multilinear polynomial over C, m≥1 a fixed integer, a a fixed element of R, g a generalized derivation of R. If ag(f(r1,…,rn))m=0 for all r1,…,rn∈I, then one of the following holds: (1)aI=ag(I)=(0);(2)g(x)=qx, for some q∈U and aqI=0;(3)[f(x1,…,xn),xn+1]xn+2 is an identity for I;(4)g(x)=cx+[q,x] for all x∈R, where c,q∈U such that cI=0 and [q,I]I=0.
