The microwave dielectric characteristics and crystal structure of the Zn(NbxTa1−x)2O6 and Mg(NbxTa1−x)2O6 systems have been investigated. It was found that both systems exhibited a morphotropic phase transition. Based on the results it was suggested that permittivity and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency depend more on crystal structure rather than on chemical composition. It was also suggested that a two-phase mixture is better than a solid solution for achieving both high quality factor and good temperature stability.

Lead-free relaxor ceramics based on sodium-bismuth titanate, (1-x)(Na1/2Bi1/2)TiO3 - xLa(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 [(1-x)NBT-xLMT] (0≤x≤0.25), were prepared by both the conventional mixed oxide method and by the Pechini route, and their crystal structure and dielectric properties were investigated. All the compositions studied were found to possess a rhombohedrally distorted crystal lattice at room temperature. A distortion degree of the unit cell decreases and its volume increases with LMT content. The temperature of the dielectric permittivity maximum does not change with increasing substitution rate. As x is increased, the frequency-dependent dielectric peaks are flattened. The compositional evolution of structure and dielectric characteristics of the ceramics obtained are analysed and discussed in respect to size, charge and polarizability of the cations involved.

A new uranium-containing silicotungstate A-β-Na14[Na2(UO2)2(SiW9O34)2]·43H2O (1) was synthesized in an aqueous solution. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis and infrared spectra analysis. A single-crystal X-ray analysis was carried out on crystal (1) which crystallizes in triclinic system, space group p ī, with a = 13.386 Å, b = 13.506 Å, c = 16.183 Å, α = 85.337o, β = 73.608o γ = 64.833o and Z = 1. Polyanion (1) consists of two A-β-SiW9 units which sandwich two uranium and two sodium ions, leading to a Keggin-type sandwich structure. The photoluminescent spectrum of (1) shows typical emission features of uranyl compounds.
