Practical approach of strain gauges using is introduced. The use of strain gauges and signal processing of measured data at static experimental load testing of a concrete beam are carried out. The ability of the strain gauge sensor to pick up the specific deformation / strain signals during loading is investigated. The Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) is applied to obtain the signal in frequency domain and reverse FFT to transform the processed signal back to time domain. The measurements are confirmed with some inductive transducers and total station. This approach is tested on 2.7 m long concrete beam in laboratory. A practical use of strain gauges with bridge constructions under complex inspection is described.

A method for continuous box-girder bridge structure finite element (FE) model updating based on static-load testing is proposed. The procedure includes field static-load testing, FE modeling, FE model (parameter) updating, etc. Based on this procedure, the structure FE model updating for an expressway 5-span pre-stressed concrete continuous box-girder bridge is conducted. And the bridge structure static FE model, which is consistent with the static-load testing actual measure response, is gained. The updated FE model (parameter) is foundation of structural performance evaluation for the bridge.

Correct process modelling is crucial for the implementation of BIM technology. Considering the interest of public procurement, the use of open standards supports the transparency of spending public money on construction projects. The aim of this paper is to model the flow of information at the stage of bridge load testing in order to properly use BIM technology for bridges. The authors present a concept known from software engineering - design pattern – a general, reusable solution for a commonly occurring problem within a given context, this time applied in infrastructure design.
