A new species of Ampharetidae,Anobothrus amourouxisp. nov., has been identified from bathyal depths of the Capbreton Canyon, Bay of Biscay (NE Atlantic Ocean). This new species is characterized by inner branchiae with transversal ciliated ridges, notochaetae from modified eighth thoracic unciniger with hirsute tips, uncini from thoracic unciniger with 6–7 teeth in lateral view arranged in two vertical rows in frontal view, fused segments II + III with paleae from SII and reduced notopodia without chaetae from SIII. An identification key for all hitherto described species of the genusAnobothrusis provided.

AbstractThe present study describes a new species, Ligophorus uruguayense, parasitizing the gills of Mugil platanus Günther, 1880 from the coast of Uruguay. It differs from all other species of the genus mainly in the shape of the ventral bar, the thick process at the distal end of the inner root of ventral anchors, the J-shaped penis accessory piece and the vaginal tube showing transverse annulations at its distal end, the host species, and geographical distribution. This is the first description of a species of Ligophorus from a mullet in the South Atlantic Ocean.

A new myriotrochid holothurian, Myriotrochus (Oligotrochus) meteorensis spec. nov., has been discovered in a deep-sea sample taken during an expedition with FS 'Meteor' (M 36) off north-west Africa, together with specimens of Molpadia musculus Risso, 1826, Hedingia albicans (Théel, 1886) and Protankyra cf. brychia (Verrill, 1885). The new species is similar to M. (O.) vitreus (M. Sars, 1866) and M. (O.) clarki Gage and Billett, 1986; it is thoroughly described and detailed measurements of wheel parameters are presented. This is the first record of a myriotrochid holothurian for the NE Atlantic Ocean south of 40°N.

Diapirs and mud volcanoes (MVs) are formed by the migration and extrusion of fluids and mud to the seafloor, respectively. In the Gulf of Cádiz there are ca. 60 MVs and several diapirs with different environmental conditions and seepage activity. Previous studies, mainly on MVs, have demonstrated that the invertebrate fauna associated with these seafloor structures can be very diverse, including chemosymbiotic species, mostly mollusks and frenulate polychaetes, as well as vulnerable suspension feeders, such as cold-water corals and sponges, among others. Previous studies of the bryozoan fauna in this area have recorded species belonging to 28 families. One of these families is Phidoloporidae, which comprises 27 genera worldwide, including the common Rhynchozoon, Reteporellina, and Reteporella. In the present study, two species belonging to Reteporella are redescribed, and a new species is described from diapirs and MVs on the shelf and slope of the Gulf of Cádiz. The samples were collected during several oceanographic expeditions carried out by the Instituto Español de Oceanografia. This genus is well represented in the NE Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and our study extends its occurrence on MVs and diapirs fields of the Gulf of Cádiz.

A new species of Neostygarctus Grimaldi de Zio et al., 1982 is described from the Great Meteor Seamount summit plateau in the Northeast Atlantic. Neostygarctus grossmeteori sp. nov. is characterized by the number and position of dorsomedian spines (five spines on the cephalic plate and each body plate and on the caudal plate, the spines decreasing in length backwards); the presence of eyes and of one or two pairs of ventral cervical spines; a transversal row of two to five short but strong spikes on the ventral side of the lateral body processes; only the internal claws of each leg provided with a normal accessory spine. The new species is related to N. acanthophorus Grimaldi de Zio et al., 1982 but differs by details of the dorsal body spines and the sculptures, the presence of ventral neck spines and ventral spikes on lateral body projections. Neostygarctus grossmeteori sp. nov. differs from two other known species of Neostygarctus, N. oceanopolis Kristensen et al., 2015 (Condor Seamont, NE Atlantic) and N. lovedeluxe Fujimoto & Miyazaki, 2013 (submarine cave NW Pacific), even more obviously by the number and position of dorsal body spines.

Bougainvillia aberrans n.sp. is described from Bermuda in the western North Atlantic Ocean. Specimens were collected at a depth of 150 fathoms (274 m) from the polypropylene buoy line of a crab trap. The hydroid colony of B. aberrans is erect, with a polysiphonic hydrocaulus, a smooth to somewhat wrinkled perisarc, hydranths having a maximum of about 16 tentacles, and medusa buds arising only from hydranth pedicels. Medusae liberated in the laboratory from these hydroids differ from all other known species of the genus in having a long, spindle-shaped manubrium, lacking oral tentacles, having marginal tentacles reduced to mere stubs, and being very short-lived (surviving for a few hours at most). Gonads develop in medusa buds while they are still attached to the hydroids, and gametes are shed either prior to liberation of the medusae or shortly thereafter. The eggs are surrounded by an envelope bearing nematocysts (heterotrichous microbasic euryteles). The cnidome of both hydroid and medusa stages consists of desmonemes and heterotrichous microbasic euryteles. The diagnosis of the genus Bougainvillia is modified to accommodate this new deep-water species.
