A new species of Diogenes Dana, 1851, Diogenes bispinatus sp. nov., is described from the South China Sea. It is closely allied to Diogenes dorotheae Morgan & Forest, 1991 and D. patae Asakura & Godwin, 2006, but it morphologically differs from the latter in the length of the antennular peduncle, the number of spines on the ocular acicle, the shape of the antennal acicle and the number of spines, the shape of the palm of left cheliped and telson. A key to the species of Diogenes from China seas is provided.
