Abstract. This paper presents the approach and outcomes of an exploratory cost-benefit analysis of subsidence mitigation strategies in the inner city of Gouda, the Netherlands. Results indicate that especially the strategy focusing on reducing damage, rather than a strategy aiming to halt subsidence altogether, might have a positive economic rationale.

Abstract This case study describes the first trial operation of a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for tilapia production in Egypt. The fish farmer in this case study became involved with an exchange programme with the Netherlands, resulting in wholesale changes in his commercial farm which are described in this case study. Also presented is a cost benefit analysis of the results of the first trial.
