In this work, the pristine and Ag-composited TiO2-Bronze (TiO2-B) nanowires are successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method using anatase(P25) as titanium source. The SEM, TEM results reveal that the silver particles are well distributed on the TiO2-B nanowires. Also, the TiO2-B/Ag nanowires are dispersed very well, which demonstrate more Li-ion insertion/extraction hosts exposed to the electrolyte. Moreover, the electrochemical performance tests suggest that compared with the pristine TiO2-B, the Ag-composited TiO2-B (TiO2-B/Ag) shows remarkably higher capacities (~286mAhg-1, closing to the theoretical capacity) and superior rate capability. The reasons causing this performance difference are ascribed to the added silver particles, which could reduce the Li-ion diffusion length and improve the material electrical conductivity.

In order to solve the poor cycle stability and the pulverization of cobalt sulfides electrodes, a series of amorphous and crystalline cobalt sulfides were prepared by one-pot solvothermal synthesis through controlling the reaction temperatures. Compared to the crystalline cobalt sulfide electrodes, the amorphous cobalt sulfide electrodes exhibited superior electrochemical performance. The high initial discharge and charge capacities of 2,132 mAh/g and 1,443 mAh/g at 200 mA/g were obtained. The reversible capacity was 1,245 mAh/g after 200 cycles, which is much higher than the theoretical capacity. The specific capability was 815 mAh/g at 800 mA/g and increased to 1,047 mAh/g when back to 100 mA/g, indicating the excellent rate capability. The outstanding electrochemical performance of the amorphous cobalt sulfide electrodes could result from the unique characteristics of more defects, isotropic nature, and the absence of grain boundaries for amorphous nanostructures, indicating the potential application of amorphous cobalt sulfide as anodes for lithium-ion batteries.

A facile approach is developed to fabricate polypyrrole-encapsulated lamellar iron (II) selenide (FeSe/PPy) by directly exposing FeSe to pyrrole atmosphere at room temperature. A high FeSe loading of 97 wt.% is achieved for the FeSe/PPy composite, which is designed as an anode for lithium-ion battery (LIB) with much enhanced electrochemical performance than that of the FeSe sample. The FeSe/PPy electrodes demonstrate a reversible discharge capacity of 274 mAh g[Formula: see text] after 50 cycles at a high current density of 0.5 A g[Formula: see text], whereas the lower discharge capacity of 124 mAh g[Formula: see text] for the FeSe electrodes. The FeSe/PPy electrodes also deliver greater rate capability compared to the FeSe electrodes. The improved electrochemical performance should be assigned to the contributions of fast charge transfer and structural defense from the encapsulated PPy. Hence, the FeSe/PPy composite could serve the purpose for constructing reliable anode for LIB, and the simple method of PPy coating can also be used to build high-performance electrodes for other battery systems.
