A series of mono- and dinuclear salen aluminum complexes could efficiently catalyze the ROP of rac-LA, producing isotactic enriched and atactic PLA, respectively. In solution, the association/dissociation equilibrium of the carbonyl group was found in the model O-lactate complexes.
