The paper presents the analysis of harmonic distortion when non-linear load is connected in different phases of power system with STATCOM for singly excited induction generator system with wind turbine as prime mover. Now-a-days due to the drastically increased in use of non linear loads causes many power quality problems in power system network. Those problems are classified as reactive power problems, harmonics, voltage sags and swells. Out of these problems harmonic problems are major concern. Custom power devices proposed for mitigation of power quality in network. For compensation of harmonic, static compensator (STATCOM) is used. The paper presents the compensation of harmonic power quality issues using STATCOM for the system with singly-excited induction generator feeding non-linear load connected in different phases. STATCOM is controlled using synchronous reference frame theory to produce pulses to switches of STATCOM sensing the input parameters. Proposed concept was developed using MATLAB/SIMULINK software and results are presented for non-linear load connected in different phases of the power system. THD analysis was shown for source current and load current for different cases.

The upcoming advanced electric grid or smart grid is define as the intelligent junction of smart devices making a power system featured by the next level advancement of flow of information and electricity in two way. In this work we have come out with the better quality of energy generated at transmission side which also involves the implementation of fuzzy controller. As a goal this work is possessing working of any 2 non conventional resources i.e. wind and PV solar panel to run any non linear load by providing the controlled power to it through fuzzy controller. A general experimentation was performed to examine the current condition of art of smart grid, and removal of disturbances and their affect on power quality. Which is due to the complications, huge heterogeneity of smart grid and high amount of information to be processed, computational techniques are enabling technologies for its advancement and success in future. Hence the motive of this work is to implement fuzzy controller in combination with non conventional resources in smart grid to the production of needed amount of electricity to make the non linear load work accordingly. Different artificial technologies give support to the development of power system.

The increased use of electricity-dependent devices has posed many concerns to the power industry. The devices like electric motors, printers, generators, transformers, computers, etc are widely used in today’s world. The electronic devices increase the non-linear load to the power system which leads to the power quality (PQ) issues by which the electrical devices may get affected with fluctuation causing equipment failure, power system failure, etc. In order to resolve the PQ related issues and harmonics mitigation occurred due to nonlinear load power filters were introduced in decades ago. This paper deals with the review of existing researches that uses power filters and other methods for power quality improvement. The paper also gives gaps and the current state of the art in the recent researches which have futuristic scope in the research domain.
