The article presents an analysis of an existing water supply system. Water consumption in various time frames, i.e. a year, week and 24 hours, is shown. A hydraulic model was developed and, using the EPANET programme, calculations simulating its parameters carried out, accounting particularly for water age, which reflective of the water quality supplied to the recipients. The obtained results are the basis for assessing the operation of the system.

The practical application of the model of water supply network realized in the program Epanet 2 requires the calibration of the model. The proposed simple calibration procedure, allows for taking into account the changes in resistance caused by the aging process, to be substituted by resistance coefficient K. In order to determine the substitute resistance coefficient K, the fire hydrant flow tests could be used, which allows to determine the aging for a given material. Calibration of the water supply network model is shown on the example of a small urban network in central Poland..

The need to save water is due, inter alia, to the paradigm of sustainable development. There are many ways to minimize the consumption of high quality water supplied by the water supply network. These include the simplest way and those complex, requiring additional installation. The lack of water is a big problem, but not only water deficit are dangerous. There is a possibility of secondary water pollution in the water supply network due to changes in network parameters. Changes in these parameters may occur due to reduced demand for water by residents and, as a result, reduced water flow - at the same pipe diameter. The article includes a review with comparative analysis of various classification systems for the tap fittings and other sanitary equipment, such as the Water Efficiency Label (WELL) in Europe or the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) in Australia. Several types of perlators and flow regulators were compared in the research section. This equipment was tested in the household. The possibilities of minimizing water consumption by using them was collated. In addition, the work also analyses the evolution of water consumption in Poland in recent years and their possible relationship with the threats quality of drinking water supplied to consumers.

Abstract The work presents the results of the analysis of an existing water supply system. It contains a description of the analysed area in which the analysed system was located, as well as its parameters regarding water intakes and transport of water with pumps, the length and diameter of pipes, and a complication of the materials used to construct the network. Water demand accounting for the nature of the consumers using the water supply network was subject to analysis. The influence of changes in the distribution of water within a day for the basic categories of recipients was accounted for. The EPANET 2.0 program for the simulating water supply network operation, made available by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through a public-domain licence, was used to construct the model of the system. The obtained results of the simulation allowed for indicating the main problems with the use of the analysed system. Subject to analysis was the pressure pattern in characteristic nodes of the network from which mining companies, industrial plants and residential households were supplied. Usefulness of the developed simulation model in preparing the assessment of future modernization works was confirmed, allowing for the effects of their implementation to be assessed.

Under the existing technical and financial conditions, we can not do real-time monitoring of the water supply network in each point. The hydraulic model establishment has created favorable conditions for simulating pipe network hydraulic model.According to the information from pressure monitoring point of water supply pipe network , we can use batch adjustment principle to analyze the calculated variables’ value. With limited resources to simulate real-time network status, build pipe water conservancy network model and simulate network real-time operating conditions. Hydraulic model provides the basis for the water supply network security evaluation, scheduling scheme, pumps and piping renewal.
