The use of the mass structuring flowchart will make it possible to forecast the methane release when mining a coal seam, to determine in advance and reasonably areas of increased rock pressure on a coal seam and a powered support. It will allow forecasting the areas of the negative rock pressure effect along the length of a face, increasing coal mining performance due to a more accurate calculation of the load on a stope and the cutting machinery output, correcting the force of the working bodies of cutting machines when destructing a coal seam, selecting face supports according to their bearing capacity, planning measures to eliminate the negative rock pressure effect in these areas, strengthen a selvedge to reduce the visible coal sloughing. Coal mining performance and safety will increase.

Abstract The main subject of this paper focuses on scientific and research activities conducted in the Institute of Mining Engineering and Safety of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. Cooperation between the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava and OKD A.S., the only representative of coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin, has recently begun to develop again. This paper describes an example discussed in a certain study, which has been undertaken for the Paskov mine, OKD a.s., dealing specifically with the evolution of microclimate parameters in mines that depend on the progress of mining activity at deeper levels over a period of several years. To this end, a special program, aimed at determination of the necessary refrigerating capacity, was established at the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava.

The method to calculate rock pressure for shallow asymmetric tunnel is analyzed by means of taking a mountainous tunnel with semicircular crown and straight sidewall as the object in this paper. The calculation method of tunnel rock pressure has been presented with consideration of both tunnel structure size and its overburden depth. Finally the way to determine the shallow or profound depth of asymmetric tunnel is also obtained.

To get the maximum coal in front of the working face of the 17# coal seam, we installed a longer beam which is 1.2m in length in the leading end of the original working face supports ZF3000/17/28, and know that working face supports’ setting load and working resistance are lower .We changed the original supports with shield supports ZY3800/15/33 that are adaptable in the geological condition and got the favorable affection.

Vertical static load test is widely used in the determination of pile bearing capacity, the mathematical model used to fit test pile data in determining the bearing capacity is essential. From the perspective of analytic geometry, the paper analyzes the traditional method of hyperbola, of which the asymptotic line of equilateral hyperbola was used to determine the ultimate bearing capacity. By extending the equal-axed conditions, a more general form of hyperbolic equation is derived and feasibility of such method is also analyzed, which indicates that the maximum point of curvature in such hyperbolic curve can determine the ultimate bearing capacity and such method is proved to be reasonable in practical projects.
