Datasets displaying temporal dependencies abound in science and engineering applications, with Markov models representing a simplified and popular view of the temporal dependence structure. In this paper, we consider Bayesian settings that place prior distributions over the parameters of the transition kernel of a Markov model, and seek to characterize the resulting, typically intractable, posterior distributions. We present a Probably Approximately Correct (PAC)-Bayesian analysis of variational Bayes (VB) approximations to tempered Bayesian posterior distributions, bounding the model risk of the VB approximations. Tempered posteriors are known to be robust to model misspecification, and their variational approximations do not suffer the usual problems of over confident approximations. Our results tie the risk bounds to the mixing and ergodic properties of the Markov data generating model. We illustrate the PAC-Bayes bounds through a number of example Markov models, and also consider the situation where the Markov model is misspecified.

Thin wall steel-concrete composite wall panels can be used as bearing member and also as maintenance structural plates, which can satisfy functional requirements of building including bearing capacity, heat insulation and preservation. The problem relating unilateral contact buckling of thin wall steel composite panels has received attention from many construction engineers. The investigation progress is analyzed in general and the investigation questions are illustrated. The research approach and technical routes of delaminated critical load are also presented.

The response of a square plate, simply and unilaterally supported, to pressure loading is numerically treated. The support system consists of discrete elastic springs whose stiffnesses range from near-rigid to compliant character. It is found that, except for rather low support stiffnesses, the plate will lift off the foundation. After demonstrating good agreement with a recent analytical work, the deflections and shear fields are provided. The response mode changes dramatically as the supports approach rigidity.
