One of the subjects of functional analysis is classification of Banach spaces depending on various properties of the unit ball. The need of such considerations comes from a number of applications to problems of mathematical analysis. The list of subjects contains: differential calculus in normed spaces, approximation theory, weak topologies and reflexivity, general theory of convexity and convex functions, metric fixed point theory, and others. The aim of this book is to present basic facts from this field. It is addressed to advanced undergraduate and graduate students interested in the subject. For some it may result in further interest, a continuation and deepening of their study of the subject. It may be also useful for instructors running courses on functional analysis, supervising diploma theses or essays on various levels.

Let E be a real normed linear space and E∗ its dual. In a recent work, Chidume et al. [Chidume, C. E. and Idu, K. O., Approximation of zeros of bounded maximal monotone mappings, solutions of hammerstein integral equations and convex minimizations problems, Fixed Point Theory and Applications, 97 (2016)] introduced the new concepts of J-fixed points and J-pseudocontractive mappings and they shown that a mapping A : E → 2 E∗ is monotone if and only if the map T := (J −A) : E → 2 E∗ is J-pseudocontractive, where J is the normalized duality mapping of E. It is our purpose in this work to introduce an algorithm for approximating J-fixed points of J-pseudocontractive mappings. Our results are applied to approximate zeros of monotone mappings in certain Banach spaces. The results obtained here, extend and unify some recent results in this direction for the class of maximal monotone mappings in uniformly smooth and strictly convex real Banach spaces. Our proof is of independent interest.

We establish stability results concerning the additive and quadratic functional equations in complete Menger ϕ-normed spaces by using fixed point theory. As particular cases, some theorems regarding the stability of functional equations in β - normed and quasi-normed spaces are obtained.

In this paper, we combine the fixed point theory, fixed point index theory and cone theory to investigate the nonnegative solutions of two-point BVP for nonlinear second order integrodifferential equations in Banach spaces. As application, we get some results for the third order case. Finally, we give several examples for both infinite and finite systems of ordinary nonlinear integrodifferential equations.

Kannan maps have inspired a branch of metric fixed point theory devoted to the extension of the classical Banach contraction principle. The study of these maps in modular vector spaces was attempted timidly and was not successful. In this work, we look at this problem in the variable exponent sequence spaces lp(·). We prove the modular version of most of the known facts about these maps in metric and Banach spaces. In particular, our results for Kannan nonexpansive maps in the modular sense were never attempted before.

AbstractWe establish a stability result concerning the functional equation: $\sum\limits_{i = 1}^m {f\left( {mx_i + \sum\limits_{j = 1,j \ne i}^m {x_j } } \right) + f\left( {\sum\limits_{i = 1}^m {x_i } } \right) = 2f\left( {\sum\limits_{i = 1}^m {mx_i } } \right)} $ in a large class of complete probabilistic normed spaces, via fixed point theory.

A variety of fixed point results are presented for weakly sequentially upper semicontinuous maps. In addition an existence result is established for differential equations in Banach spaces relative to the weak topology.

AbstractRecently, the authors [MIHEŢ, D.—SAADATI, R.—VAEZPOUR, S. M.: The stability of an additive functional equation in Menger probabilistic φ-normed spaces, Math. Slovaca 61 (2011), 817–826] considered the stability of an additive functional in Menger φ-normed spaces. In this paper, we establish some stability results concerning the cubic, quadratic and quartic functional equations in complete Menger φ-normed spaces via fixed point theory.

This paper deals with some existence of mild solutions for two classes of impulsive integrodifferential equations in Banach spaces. Our results are based on the fixed point theory and the concept of measure of noncompactness with the help of the resolvent operator. Two illustrative examples are given in the last section.

AbstractIn this work we are concerned with the existence of fixed points for multivalued maps defined on Banach spaces. Using the Banach spaces scale concept, we establish the existence of a fixed point of a multivalued map in a vector subspace where the map is only locally Lipschitz continuous. We apply our results to the existence of mild solutions and asymptotically almost periodic solutions of an abstract Cauchy problem governed by a first-order differential inclusion. Our results are obtained by using fixed point theory for the measure of noncompactness.
